What To Expect

1

West Thumb Geyser Basin

Our Twilight Tour is a 4 to 5 mile journey and usually takes about 3 hours. After a brief orientation with your guide, the group will paddle along the shore of Yellowstone Lake, North America's Largest High Alpine Lake! Depending on weather conditions and the group ability, our guides will safely escort the group to West Thumb Geyser Basin. After touring the Geyser Basin, where dozens of geothermal features are visible above and below the water's surface, we will return along the same route, stopping for refreshment and a chance to explore along the shore of the lake, arriving back at our Launch Point in Grant Marina before the sun sets. Return time may vary depending on group size, weather, fitness, and of course the time the sunsets.

Maddie was our guide and she was amazing. She is knowledgeable, professional, friendly and easy to talk to and enthusiastic. In addition to the thermal activities we saw a grizzly and an elk. She alerted the village as well as the park authorities about the grizzly.

Plenty of paddling, as my kids wanted to race, but also wanted the parents to spot them..very knowledgeable guide who was happy to talk about all aspects of geology and natural history of the park, fun to see the thermals from a different perspective and of course great to be at a great spot at sunset

  • Lovely hosts; relaxed and fun activity

It was great fun - Dylan and Maddi were thorough but reassuring when it came to training us up on how to operate the kayaks. They went at our pace and kept everything relaxed. We were chaperoned by Maddi who was very knowledgeable about many natural and geological features of the park, pointing out underwater fumaroles and some quirks about features in the West Thumb system. She gave us advice about good trails and boardwalks to visit (as we had already done all the major ones!), including Black Sand Basin (agree; it's beautiful) and Mt. Washburn from Chittenden service road.
