What To Expect
YS Falls
As you set off from your hotel heading towards the south coast, you might be asking yourself - What is the drive going to be like going to the south coast of Jamaica? Well, it finally hits home as you start making your way up the mountains and through small farming villages where nearly all the locals live off the lands - very hardworking, humble, friendly villagers who you will wave at you as you go by. Don't forget to take your cameras! You will need them for your vacation photos, since you will be traveling through the hills and valleys - making your way through farming areas and little old towns that were developed during the plantation era mostly by the British. The ride to the south coast is approx.. 1hr 30mins. Ask your tour guide about the myriad of local fruits and peppered shrimp when you get in the town of Middle Quarters, otherwise known as "shrimp Country". After an entertaining ride and an amazing local experience, you arrive at YS Falls, get checked in and board the tractor jitney that will take you on a 10 minutes ride through the 2,600 acres property and up to the falls. The YS Falls property is home to horses, cattle, massive guango and mango trees. You will be in awe as you make your way through the lush, green vegetation with crystal clear water streaming through the forest. At the YS Falls you can soak yourself in the 100% natural pools and cascades, swing on Tarzan Ropes, swim, etc. It is the perfect choice for a romantic getaway or if you wish to break away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resort property. Please take advantage of the Zipline Canopy or Tubing while you are there (Zipline & tubing comes at an additional cost). Total time at the YS Falls will be approx.. 1hr 30mins after which time you will head down to Black River for a stop at the Riverside Dock where you will have local lunch buffet. Lunch includes steamed vegetables, rice & beans, fried chicken/stewed beef.
Black River
What a memorable day it has been so far! Now you are at the Riverside Dock where you will have lunch. After lunch, you will meet with your Safari Tour Guide who is very knowledgeable & well prepared - eager to take you on a wild journey up the Black River. There you will get all the information on the Black River and its wildlife, including endemic bird species, crabs, rare or endemic plants such as water lilies and others - North American crocodiles and Tarpans also occupy their space in the Black River. Get your cameras ready as your Safari Captain call the crocodiles, feed them chicken meat and pet them - no, your tour guide is not crazy but they have an excellent relationship with their friends from the Safari and are ready to share their experience and expertise with you! You might even see local fishers snorkeling the river collecting their crab traps or spear fishing right there among the crocodiles and other wildlife - and no, they're not crazy! It's just a way of life! After an amazing experience at YS Falls and Black River Safari it will be time to head back to your hotel/pickup point.

1.00Reserved this excursion for 2 people. My credit card was immediately charged. The trip was cancelled the day before. Two days later and I have had no response from the tour company and my card has not been credited.
Great day trip for two families with four kids ranging from 8-14 years old.

5.00The YS Falls were beautiful. We enjoyed the rope swings and the tour guides did a great job of making sure we had pictures of our memories. It wasn’t too busy on the Tuesday we went. The lunch at the Black River restaurant was delicious. We grabbed some ice cream for the boat ride and enjoyed the beautiful views. We saw several crocodiles and the tour guide was funny and informative. The tour guide that drove the bus was amazing. He gave us a great history of Jamaica and was very enjoyable to be around. Overall a great trip.

4.00I want to clarify upfront that this review is for the Dunn River Falls, Blue Hole, and Secret Falls tour, as the operator kindly rebooked me from the YS Falls and Black River Safari tour at no extra charge due to low interest in the latter. This thoughtful accommodation allowed me to join a group traveling on Christmas Day, which was greatly appreciated. — Transportation & Group Dynamics: The transport did take some time due to multiple pickups and stops, but the driver more than made up for it with humor and a welcoming attitude. He engaged everyone with jokes and even hosted a fun trivia game, which helped pass the time and set a positive tone for the day. The operators ensured there were opportunities for bathroom breaks, refreshment purchases, and even souvenir shopping, making the journey feel well-paced. — Destination 1: Dunn River Falls Experience Upon arrival, there was a bit of a wait due to the popularity of the site, but once we started, the experience was truly enjoyable. The falls were beautiful, and the activity itself was well-organized and fun. However, at the end of this portion, the guides became a bit pushy when requesting tips. While I felt somewhat guilted into tipping more than I intended (due to limited local currency on hand), I understand this isn't reflective of the tour operator but something for future travelers to be aware of. — Destination 2: Blue Hole and Secret Falls At the next stop, participants were given the freedom to engage at their comfort level—whether diving, rope swinging, or simply observing. I personally participated and found the activities thrilling and the scenery breathtaking. The camaraderie among the group of strangers was a delightful bonus, making the experience even more memorable. — Return Journey & Final Impressions: The return trip was straightforward and scenic, though understandably long. Overall, it was a fantastic way to spend a day. — Tips for Future Travelers A couple of takeaways: 1. Be mindful of tipping—it's always helpful to have smaller denominations in local currency to avoid overextending. 2. Expect some delays during transport and at popular sites, but rest assured the experience is worth it. In summary, this was a well-organized and thoroughly enjoyable excursion. The operator’s efforts to create a friendly, fun, and flexible experience were evident, making it a memorable day for all involved.

5.00We had a great time doing both of these activities. Even made a few personalized stops along the way (gift shop for water shoes - finally were optional, and by the road to drink from a coconut). Were expecting a group tour but they still accommodated just the three of us, with a car seat for our 4 year-old, who keeps talking about how great our « friend » and driver/tour guide Copely was. A day to remember!

5.00Anthony our driver picked us up on time and with a big smile, we picked up another couple en route, upon arrival at YS we met our falls guide and he showed us safe routes and took lots of pics and videos for us , the warm relaxation pool at the bottom was soothing and invigorating YS is not as busy and challenging as Dunnes River but equally beautiful experience then we met Anthony and made our way to Black River Safari, on arrival we had a lovely dinner the alighted the boat , it was a beautiful River cruise, with lots of crocodiles and wildlife with good knowledge fron the driver, on the way back I even got to pilot the boat which was a great experience, We then met Anthony for our journey back to hotel Its was a wonderful day and would like to.thank SNL tours and especially Anthony for taking care of us all day , always checking to see if we were OK and needed anything all with a smile , and getting us home through rush hour traffic which is an experience in itself Would highly recommend this tour and SNL Tours especially Anthony Mark and Judith

5.00The black river safari was a highlight of my trip I many different kinds of birds and a lot of crocodile’s I would recommend The YS falls part of trip was alright the falls are pretty the water was freezing but a lot people were swimming in it

5.00Our driver with SNL Jamaican Tours was Ricardo. He was awesome!! We were very impressed with his driving skills and his knowledge of Jamaica. We loved hearing him speak of the country and the Jamaican people. Our guide at the Falls was Kimarley and he was awesome helping us over the rocks. He held our phones and took pics and videos of us, FOR FREE! He was the best guide! We played on the Tarzan Rope and the gliding rope. He took a lot of good pics! It was very safe and lots of fun! The Falls were beautiful!!! The lunch at the restaurant was a buffet of Jamaican chicken, beef stew, rice with beans, and a roll with yummy punch. It was delicious! They also sell sodas including “Ginger Beer” which is a delicious soda! Try it!!! The Safari was very informative and our guide was Shane, I believe. He showed us some huge crocs, lots of birds, and told us about the ecosystem of the mangroves. I would do both tours again! I would book with SNL Jamaican Tours Company for any future tours! Thanks to everyone for the fun day!!!
