Sail on a special river, in the heart of the first demarcated wine region in the world, and a UNESCO heritage site.
We start in Pinhão, passing under the Eiffel iron bridge, sailing up the river to the Roncão area, returning to Pinhão.
You will see terraced vineyards right down to the river, in a landscape without national roads or road traffic.
Although the section of river on the way back is the same, it could very well be different, as when seen from another direction it creates completely different views and landscapes.
Traditional Rabelo boats have open and closed areas, allowing comfortable navigation at any time of year and weather.

A nice day on the river! Boat travels up river rather than down : area is less developed. Sit on left side of the boat to beat the heat mid day!

I would not recommend this River Boat tour. We were just taken on a 2 hour boat ride and given a guided tour that we downloaded. The crew sat up top. The crew were smoking cigarettes even though there was no smoking on the boat. The bathroom was filthy and no running water. It was a dull experience.

We had two hours of stunning beauty and a cloudless sky. They provided an audioguide to listen on our phones which described what we were seeing. It was wonderful.

we didn’t have good experience unfortunately , there were too many people , they were sitting in places which didn’t allow us good views and most of the time they were standing and Hiding the view and the option to take pictures. The boat sailed late than the hour scheduled by 20 minutes, and when we got back the boat stopped for another 20 minutes to download people with kayaks and loading another group of 8 people with bicycles……we were not told in advance that in order to have voice guidance we need to download an app, and we didn’t manage to operate it and had no guidance at all! The toilets were horrible, no soap and very inconvenient, no option of buying water or any other food. For us it was an experience which I would not recommend so much, and the cost was also not a proper value for the money.

The trip itself was lovely and restful, though the seats on board are not particularly comfortable. Departure was not well-organised. There is neither seating, nor shade near the departure point, and that means queuing in the sun (or rain!) until just a few minutes before departure time. This is, obviously, particularly difficult for people with a disability. Boarding means you have to cross from one boat to another, and there was insufficient seating for the number of passengers - spare chairs had to be brought in for the final few. There was an interesting commentary, which you download onto your phone. It is one way only - no commentary on the return leg
