Hike to Base Camp
Accommodations
Overnight camping on Acatenango Volcano in the best cabins of the volcano, with windows directly facing Fuego Volcano!

OX Expeditions
Start the day with a complementary breakfast and coffee at a local restaurant. Then we head to the trail head by minibus. From here we hike up the amazing Acatenango Volcano trail to our base camp with spectacular views of Fuego volcano arriving at around 2 PM

5.00I did the Acatenango Volcano Tour and it was an unforgettable experience! I’m not a professional hiker, but the team made everything very well organized and safe. The guides were supportive and encouraging throughout the hike, and the whole tour was perfectly arranged. Watching the volcano was absolutely breathtaking — truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Highly recommended!

5.00I can’t say enough great things about OX. Absolutely wonderful staff. Before during and after the climb. The entire experience was amazing, gruelling climb albeit but that’s on my fitness level. However, the guides, porters and puppy dogs were the shinning light who helped and encouraged me throughout. I really did read every bad comment to be very realistic about my ability. I didn’t want to hold the group up or not be able to make it. Some of things people said simply weren’t my experience at all. I will say, if you are average and not overly “fit” it is a very hard climb, and our active climbers did use porters after the first leg. The reward is incredible! Campfire, shots of rum, wonderful meals, some laughs and new friendships. Amazing group of humans, OX and my group. You got this! Slow and steady!

4.00All very well organized. The agency meets you a day early to explain everything, the route and what to take. If you don't have something, you get it there. Of course, they tell you to bring 4 liters of water that are unnecessary since along the way there are stalls with potatoes, water and soft drinks. It is okay to carry a couple of liters as much for the road, more involves putting on weight. The climb to the crater great, but if it's cloudy, you beat yourself up for nothing, besides the care that you have to be up and down, because the monitors don't care if you step well or fall. Overall it is highly recommended and the experience is great.
