Ancient City of Ephesus

This enclosure for archaeological remains at Ephesus elegantly reconciles historic conservation with accessibility for visitors. The site of a succession of great ancient civilizations, Ephesus, on the south-west coast of modern Turkey, embodied a peculiarly fertile synthesis of architecture and culture. In 356BC the Greeks built the Artemesium (a colossal Ionic temple dedicated to Artemis the fertility goddess) which was one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. During the 2nd century BC, Ephesus was the fourth largest city in the eastern Roman Empire, famous for its Artemision, the Library of Celsus and its medical school..

The Temple of Artemis

The Temple of Artemis is known as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. It has been built in the areas of Ephesus on a flat area which has over the centuries turned into a swamp. If you visit Ephesus today, you can only see the ruins of the foundations of this marvelous construction of the Hellenistic Age, entirely made of marble and full of sculptured columns' capitals and shafts. The most beautiful remaining of this temple are today exhibited in the London British Museum. The oldest remaining found date back till the 6th century BC. It was surrounded by 36 huge columns, later enlarged upon the orders of the Lydia King, Kreisos, during the 6th century BC. Most of the exhibits in the London British Museum belong to this period.

We had an amazing experience with our guide Ngai. A wonderful 1/2 day (4-5 hrs) tour in Selcuk. Our guide Ngai is amazing, everything went smoothly from pick up (at port) to finish (back to port). Ngai is so knowledgeable with the historical information of the Ephesus, which we enjoyed so much. The digital museum was free and totally worth to see it. Lunch was delicious, enough food for us +50 ladies. We are happy with both our driver and our guide.

We had a wonderful private tour with Nagi and Boss during our day in port. We visited Ephesus - including my favorite part, the Terrace Houses - and the new Experience Museum. We also enjoyed lunch and a demonstration of traditional carpet weaving, then continued on to the village of Sirince before returning to our ship. I had fractured my foot a few weeks before the trip, and Nagi was incredibly accommodating, setting a perfect rhythm of walking, resting, and sharing information. She was very knowledgeable and offered thoughtful answers to all our questions. I was initially indifferent about the lunch, but it ended up being memorable with simple, fresh ingredients prepared beautifully. In Sirince, we finished the day with traditional Turkish coffee cooked in hot sand. All in all, we would highly recommend this tour.

We did the PRIVATE Ephesus and House of Virgin Mary Tour Skip The Line tour with Mel as our guide, and Boss as our driver. Mel was brilliant, she took the time to understand what our interests were, and what we wanted to see, then adjusted the itinerary to accommodate us. Mel was very good at explaining the history and background of the different sites we visited, both whilst we were traveling to the sites, and also at each of the sites. She really was a terrific guide, and I'd definitely request her for a different tour if the opportunity arose. Boss was a careful driver, navigating us to the different places efficiently and safely. All in all a great combination of guide and drive, and a really great experience professionally delivered. Thank you.....

I had an amazing trip to Ephesus with Eda as our tour guide, and it was truly unforgettable! Eda was incredibly knowledgeable and spoke perfect English, explaining everything in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. She made history come alive and answered all of my questions with great enthusiasm. The tour was very well-organized — from comfortable transportation to perfectly timed stops and plenty of time to explore and take photos. Eda made sure everyone felt included and enjoyed the experience. Her passion for what she does really shows! I learned so much and had a wonderful time discovering the ancient city. Everything ran smoothly, and I left with beautiful memories and lots of great pictures. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Turkey — if you get Eda as your guide, consider yourself lucky!
