My husband and I took this tour in early November, and Kristen was our guide. I had booked the tour about 3 weeks earlier through Trip Advisor and heard from Carol the following day. She said she would be need a list of the top distilleries we would want to visit and she would put together an itinerary and send it to us for approval. She was incredibly responsive! Kristen picked us up at our hotel in Frankfort, and we were able to tour Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve and Bluegrass distilleries. Unfortunately Four Roses was not open to tours on Mondays. Kristen was very kind and friendly. She brought water and snacks, and at her end of the day, even took us by a specialty candy store which does bourbon chocolates for a number of the distilleries. It was a great day, and we were able tour distilleries that we weren’t able to book ourselves. We will definitely book with them again when we return.

The tour was wonderful. The transportation was very comfortable, and it was a valuable experience that allowed me to connect with the other participants. I especially appreciated that the driver pointed out other distilleries we passed along the highway.

Very interesting day of touring two bourbon distilleries and visiting the retail store of a third, with bourbon tasting at each. Given the mileage between the three, there was lots of road time, probably a total of 4 hours riding in the van. Our driver, Belkis, was excellent, very personable and accommodating. She was always available to direct us after each tour. I would highly recommend her. One thing to know, we were picked up at our hotel promptly at 8:45, and did not have any stops where food was available until 3 pm, so plan ahead. I think this varies depending on which distilleries you choose to tour, but something to keep in mind and ask about when booking. Belkis gave us updates prior to pickup, so we never had any question of where (or if) we were being picked up. A very enjoyable day, and stress free. If you go to Makers Mark, be sure to dip a bottle!

My initial experience working with Carol to decide which distilleries to visit was excellent. I printed the itinerary she sent, that included times, and planned our vacation around it. I did not get any follow up communication the days leading up to our tour. On the day of the tour, our tour guide texted me 20 minutes before Carol said we were to meet and said he was ready to go. We were still eating breakfast and told him we would meet him at the time on our itinerary. Once we met up, we were impressed by the quality of the van, and our driver was courteous, if not communicative. We then spent quite a bit of time driving around downtown. When we finally picked up the rest of our group, it was clear our driver had been confused about the pick up location. Later, when our travel companions talked with me about getting a late start, I learned our tour guide had blamed us for the delay! We set off for Buffalo trace distillery. It was absolutely beautiful, but very, very busy. In what turned out to be a theme for the day, our driver didn’t really help us understand what was going to be happening, how much time we had in each location, and when and where we should meet him for pick up. Our tour ran long, and by the time we made it to the gift shop, the line was at least 30 minutes long for checkout! I’ve never seen anything like it. We decided we didn’t have time to buy anything. Two members of our party got in line anyway as our tour guide had not set any parameters for when we needed to leave, and we ended up being 30 minutes behind schedule for our trip to Jeptha Creed. At Jeptha Creed, it became clear that there had been a miscommunication between the tour company and our tour companions. We all had to go on a later tour because of the miscommunication so, we left Jeptha Creed behind schedule and headed to Jim Beam. Jim Beam was large and impressive. Unfortunately, the tour snafu happened again. We went on an earlier tour and the other group on our tour went on a tour 45 minutes later than ours. It was the end of the day, Jim beam was having a wedding, so we couldn’t get anything to eat after our tour while we waited for our companions. By the time our companions got done with their tour, it was the time our itinerary said we would make it back to our hotel! We all got in the van and headed back to Louisville. Unfortunately, there was a massive accident on I 65 and the interstate was closed! Our tour guide got off the interstate and took us on a back route, which we appreciated. It still took us three times longer to get back to Louisville than normal. We were supposed to be back in Louisville at 6 PM, and my husband and I rushed to our 7:30 dinner reservation at 7:45. It was a miracle we made it at all! In summary, while there were many good moments during the day, lack of communication on the part of our guide really hurt our experience! He never gave us clear direction, he never made friendly conversation in the van, and he seemed genuinely confused by the timeline and our itinerary. Since all the other reviews here are five star, and I would like to give this to tour company the benefit of the doubt, i’m going to say I would recommend this tour to a friend. The distilleries are amazing! The van was top-notch. Working with Carol on the itinerary was a pleasure.
