Banana River Manatee Refuge
There are only a few places in the world where you can see the West Indian Manatees and the Banana River Manatee Refuge is one of them. We often see large groups of manatees and dolphins in this area making it one of the best places to paddle board or kayak in all of Florida!
Thousand Islands Conservation Area is a 338-acre site located on the Banana River adjacent to Cocoa beach and consists of a series of islands in the Indian River Lagoon. The Conservation area is made up of over 1000 small islands, most only accessible by boat or kayak. The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including storks, dolphins, manatees, roseate spoonbills, as well as rare and endangered tropical plants. We are going to pass by to this area for about 30 minutes.

It was a little difficult to find the meeting place, but our guide (Jack) was extremely knowledgeable and had a lot of experience. After paddling around a sanctuary island dedicated to birds (great views and photo opportunities), we continue inside the connecting canal between Indian River and Banana River, there we encountered dolphins and manatees extremely close and for a long time. The experience was great and the group was small enough for everybody to enjoy. Highly recommendable

We had an amazing time paddleboarding with Three Brothers Paddleboarding in Cocoa Beach! Our guide Eric was absolutely the best, and was knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the local wildlife and ecosystem. He pointed out so many incredible sights along the way, including stingrays, dolphins, and the biggest horse conch I’ve ever seen. It was the perfect mix of fun and learning about the beautiful area. Highly recommend this experience and definitely ask for Eric if you can!

We had the BEST time with Three Brothers Kayak and Stand-Up Paddleboards! Our tour guide, Christian, was fantastic—super knowledgeable, upbeat, and made the whole experience both fun and relaxing. We did a combo kayak and stand-up paddleboard tour hoping to see manatees. While they stayed hidden this time, we saw so much other wildlife and got to explore some stunning parts of the water that we never would’ve found on our own. Christian kept us engaged with fun facts about the area and the animals we did spot, and he made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable no matter their experience level. Honestly, it was still such a magical afternoon—beautiful weather, calm waters, and great company. We’ll absolutely be back (and fingers crossed for a manatee next time)! Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting the area!

⸻ We had an incredible experience with Christian on our tour! From the very beginning, he made us feel welcome and taken care of. We were lucky enough to see many dolphins, which was absolutely magical. Christian took his time with us, never rushed, and even extended the tour so we could fully enjoy the moment. What impressed us most was his attention to our safety. As a storm was approaching, Christian was very aware and cautious, making sure we were always safe and comfortable. His professionalism, kindness, and deep respect for nature truly made this tour unforgettable. Highly recommended!

We had a great time and saw lots of dolphins on our tour. The manatees were a little less active but we still found a few. We also saw some jelly fish and crabs while we were out.
