My tour, Enchanting Avignon: History and Legend, goes beyond the typical historical walk—it’s a journey through time, blending fascinating history with captivating legends.
My goal is to bring Avignon’s medieval past to life, from the grandeur of the Popes’ Palace to the secrets hidden in the city’s ancient streets.
What sets this experience apart is the balance between historical facts, engaging anecdotes, and local insights. You’ll hear the untold stories behind the city’s iconic landmarks, learn about its unique Provençal culture, and discover hidden corners that most visitors overlook.
To ensure the best experience, I provide audio headsets so everyone can hear clearly, making it ideal for all travelers (you can bring your own 3.5mm earphone if you have any)
Note: I am a local guide with a passion for history, not a professional historian. Access to churches depends on their schedules and is not guaranteed (Mondays particularly).

Palais des Papes
The Palace of the Popes in Avignon is one of the most iconic landmarks in France and the largest Gothic palace in the world. Built in the 14th century, this UNESCO World Heritage site served as the papal residence when Avignon was the heart of Christendom. Its imposing architecture, grand halls, chapels, and stunning frescoes reflect the political and spiritual power of the popes who resided here. During your visit, you’ll discover the richly decorated rooms, the majestic papal apartments, and the hidden courtyards, while learning about the fascinating history of the palace, its role in medieval Europe, and the legacy it left behind.
Cathedrale Notre-Dame des Doms
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame des Doms in Avignon is a stunning example of Romanesque architecture, standing proudly beside the Palace of the Popes. Built in the 12th century, this historic cathedral features a striking gilded statue of the Virgin Mary atop its bell tower, visible from across the city. Inside, you’ll find beautiful frescoes, religious art, and the tombs of several popes who resided in Avignon during the 14th century. The cathedral’s peaceful atmosphere and breathtaking views from the adjacent gardens make it a must-see for anyone exploring Avignon’s rich spiritual and architectural heritage.

This tour was fun and very informative! Our tour guide Ana was very communicative and friendly. She was friendly, well prepared and made sure everyone was comfortable along the way. I really liked how informative Ana was and she really knew the area well. The walk was not too hard and I especially liked the local library, which she recommended to visit later on. I was very happy with the tour and recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about Avignon!

Ana was terrific! Only disappointment was all the churches being closed on Mondays. Wish we had known that before booking. Otherwise, she was fun and knowledgeable and engaging. Highly recommend.

The walk hand in hand with Ana Maria has been like jumping in time. 1000 historical details, with dates and a cherry of humor that made the group have a great time. Ana Maria is a great professional, she knows what she talks about and is definitely a well of wisdom.
