• Great way to see key Rapa Nui sites

  I enjoyed this tour, but wished that I’d had one more day on Rapa Nui so I could have seen the other 1/2 of the island. The guide didn’t introduce himself formally to the group, but he had quite a lot of knowledge. The highlight was the quarry, so many Moai to see: I would skip having lunch there though, as it felt expensive for what is was (and some of my chicken was not cooked). Overall this was a nice way to see some key sites on the island, and last stop is Anakena beach for a swim. I do wish that there was a 3rd option for the tour which combined the best sites from this tour and the best sites from the other tour as that would have been perfect

  Too good tour! The guide Tau was super friendly, answered all the questions we asked, you can see that she knows a lot about the Rapanui history and showed concern that we were all well, we went at our own pace. The places are wonderful!

  This has been the best tour we’ve participated in. The guide was very knowledgeable about his culture, which helped us understand the whole travel experience much better. All the sites were very well maintained and easy to walk through without causing any harm to so much unknown history. We would definitely use the same agency again without any problem.

  We enjoyed our experience very much, with Merahe as our guide and Julio as our driver. We visited 6 sites within the NP which gave us a good overview of the history, legends, theories of the moai and what they represented, how they were carved and quarried and why. Julio played native music as he drove and quietly sang along , which was very special for those of us could hear him. We hiked on our own to the crater which I also highly recommend. The whole day was very unique and Easter Island is special place we will never forget and highly recommend!

• Extremely Disappointing Experience – Avoid Hotu Matua Tour

  This was by far the worst tour I’ve joined since arriving in South America. I booked the Hotu Matua Tour on Easter Island, and it turned out to be a complete waste of both time and money. The tour guide was extremely unprofessional and had a poor attitude throughout the day. She constantly started her explanations when only two or three people had caught up, ignoring the rest of the group (11 people in total). To make matters worse, she often spoke while facing the Moai statues or the sea — it was impossible to hear her properly, especially given the strong wind and rain that day. The ground was muddy and slippery, yet she never waited for the group to stay together. I eventually gave up halfway through because it was just too difficult to follow along, and by the end of the tour, I had learned almost nothing about Rapa Nui’s history or culture. The worst moment came after lunch. My period came unexpectedly, and before boarding the bus, I told her I needed the toilet. She rolled her eyes and gave me a speech about how I had “plenty of time before” and should wait until the next stop instead. When I explained that my period had started early, she rolled her eyes again and told me to “be quick about it.” I rushed to the bus to grab my sanitary items, only for her to close the bus door and tell the driver to start driving. I had to stop her and run to the toilet anyway. Ironically, after all that fuss, we later spent over 1.5 hours doing nothing at Akakena Beach in the rain. At the end of the day, the driver dropped off the guide before finishing the rest of the hotel drop-offs, leaving the entire group shocked by her lack of professionalism. To make things worse, I later found out that other tours were cancelled or rescheduled that day due to the wind and rain — so not only was this one badly run, it probably shouldn’t have happened at all. The tour is also more expensive than other options on the island, yet offers far worse value. I walked away feeling frustrated and disappointed. Save yourself the trouble and book with another company — this one ruined my experience on Easter Island.

  Great way to explore and visit the best sightseeing on the east side of the island, which is the furthest from Hanga Roa. We are very pleased on having chosen this tour.

  Packed a lot into the day. Saw so many different Moai. The 15 standing tall along a platform by the sea were magnificent. The history and legends very interesting. Guide spoke good English.

  Taking the tours with this agency was a unique experience. The whole tour was guided by local people, who not only know the island, but also convey its history and culture with incredible love and clarity. The guides are true historians of Rapa Nui, and listening to their stories brings each place to life. More than a tour, it feels like a kind of story told by those who really carry the island in their hearts. Just excellent.
