Discover the most authentic and fresh Cretan food in villages between Chania and Rethymno.
We will visit traditional villages where we will taste local cheese, honey ,olive oil, smoked meat, fruits, Greek sweets and herbs
•We will drink Greek coffee made the traditional way in hovoli (fire that hasn’t been completely extinguished and remains hot)
•You will have visit the best cheese factory in western Crete.You will also try the perfect ice cream that my friend makes and the delicious yoghurt.
•We will have two meals in two different villages.The first taverna is at a mountain.The second taverna is above lake Kournas and has a fantastic view!Both are family owned and use products from the village or their own!
•You will have the pleasure to witness the Cretan hospitality yourselves
This is not just a food tasting experience but also a great opportunity to discover the traditional villages of Cretan countryside.
The experience can take place also in the morning between 9.30-15.00

What To Expect

Visit to a traditional coffeehouse, surrounded by beautiful trees, streams and have the opportunity to enjoy Greek coffee made the traditional way, ( slow cooked in hot sand )which gives an enhanced flavor to the coffee.
Fres
Enjoy traditional ice cream from sheep milk that can only be found in Chania. Have the opportunity to taste the unique flavor of carob that is not found anywhere else in the world. Try the Cretan cheese “graviera” from which the traditional dish “saganaki” is made. The cheese shop owner will offer you the traditional Cretan drink “raki” that is up to you to try as it is quite strong.

5.00The food was amazing. I really enjoyed the sheep milk icecream. If you do this tour I recommend trying the carob and cherry flavours. If you like lamb then I would recommend doing this tour on a Sunday which we did. We got to try lots of wine and raki also. Only negative is that we were a little squashed in the car but that was only a small detraction from an otherwise lovely evening in Crete.

It was awesome experiencing different local establishments where we had delicious, fresh and authentic food. We learned so much from Yannis and it was our favorite day in Greece, I highly recommend this experience!

5.00We took this tour, my husband and I, plus another couple. It was a fantastic tour. Yannis was so nice, knowledgeable. He took us out to small villages in Crete which was great way to see more than Chania. We had 2 large meals, coffee, visited a monastery. We were supposed to go for ice cream also, but we ran late, plus we couldn’t have ate another bite. He picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off. The only negatives are, I wish he had a larger car. Luckily we are not huge people because there was the 4 of us plus him in a sedan. Being only 5 feet tall, I sat in the middle on “the hump” for the whole trip. I larger vehicle would have been more comfortable. Also, we went to two restaurants where he ordered multiple items for us to try. We truly appreciated trying all the different foods, but I think he should set up with the restaurants to give smaller portions. We felt we wasted so much food, which none of us like to do. But we literally couldn’t eat any more.

5.00Possibly the best way to learn about a culture is to experience the food. Even better if it's away from the larger populations and fancy restaurants. I had an amazing day exploring parts of Crete I would not have otherwise discovered alone -- with much to learn from the amazing guide, Yannis. I was quite fortunate to be solo on this tour with Yannis -- outstanding person, who I now consider a friend. He will also gladly offer to take many photos of you and your surroundings with your phone :) Regarding the food and drink -- you'll love every bite and wish your stomach was bigger!

4.00Yiannis was very nice and accommodating. The company on our small group tour were great. The scenery and stops were informative and lovely. There was just too much food! We had lunch at a small taverna. An hour later we had dinner at another taverna. Both were excellent though. A thoroughly enjoyable experience!

5.00We had the most incredible day with Yannis on his gastronomy tour. He is knowledgeable, relaxed, easy to talk to, and an incredible guide. We loved driving the back roads around Chania with him and getting to experience the traditional Tavernas and see the ancient olive oil making process. It was a fantastic day!

5.00My family and I (5 adults) recently went on this experience on August 27th and, I can safely say, it was exceptional. Yannis and his wife were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about Crete, the culture, and the food. You could tell they genuinely loved showing us the beautiful sights and food of the island. They were forthcoming about sharing about their life and what it is like to live there in addition to being curious about your own. They picked the most amazing traditional food places with the best views and all five of us said we had the best time. If you can, book this tour it will really give you a great traditional feel of the island of Crete, from the views, to the food, to its people.
