Hida Takayama: a castle town from the Edo period. Enjoy local gourmet food and shopping while strolling through the old streets, including traditional Hida handicraft stores and candy stores.
Shirakawago: Shirakawa-go and the Gokayama Gassho-Zukuri Villages are well known for the large number of gassho-zukuri houses, some 100 in all, that still remain and are used by the people who live there. The village has been inscribed in the Michelin Green Guide Japon and as a World Heritage Site. It is a place like the hometown of Japan where you can deeply feel the rural culture and lifestyle that is the original landscape of Japan.

What To Expect
Gujo Hachiman Castle Town
The townscape, which retains an atmosphere unchanged since the Edo period, is an old town designated as a group of important traditional buildings by the national government, and is called "Mizu-no-sato" (the town of water) because of the waterway that runs past the eaves of the houses. The waterway is still used as water for daily life, and visitors can enjoy strolling through the scenery where the waterway and town houses are integrated.
Takayama
Hida Takayama retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, which is like stepping back in time. Strolling along the old streets, you can enjoy shopping and dining while experiencing the history of Hida Takayama, where you will find traditional Hida handicraft stores, traditional sweets shops, and specialty restaurants.

4.00We had a great time visiting Shirakawa-Go, Gujo and Takayama. Our guide was lovely, and the bus was comfortable. Note, this was not a guided tour in the sense that you walk with the guide while they explain each location. It was more of an, "Here's the highlights. Have time to explore in your own." However, we had sufficient time at each place to explore, and our guide had great recommendations on what to do/see and where to take photos. She also gave us some base info about each place before arriving and while at the stop.

3.00the meeting point was chaotic and confusing. there were several tour groups gathered, and the only clue from viator was that the guide would be there with a flag... the trip details failed to mention the name of the tour operator, so by the time i figured out which one it was, they were already boarding the bus! would've been good to also mention in the details that there are no toilets on the bus, and no potty stops along the way. this was listed as an english-speaking tour, and while the guide was very sweet, she struggled a great deal with her english pronunciations which made it difficult to follow the information. (she also spoke 2 other languages on the tour.) the destinations, while overcrowded by tour buses, were lovely and we did have a decent amount of time to explore on our own in each place.
