Kasuga Grand Shrine

This shrine, designated as a World Heritage Site, was originally built in the 8th century. The current main hall was constructed in 1863 and is designated as a National Treasure. Over the past 1200 years, nearly 3,000 stone lanterns have been donated and line the shrine's corridors and grounds. Located adjacent to Nara Park, the shrine offers visitors the unique opportunity to encounter and feed the many deer that roam freely within its precincts.

Nara Park

Legend has it that in the 7th century, a deity descended upon the mountain behind Kasuga Taisha, arriving on the back of a deer. Because of this, deer have been revered as divine messengers in Nara since ancient times. Today, approximately 1,300 deer inhabit Nara Park, beloved by visitors from around the world. The opportunity to see these deer up close and take photos makes Nara Park a popular destination for families and people of all ages.

Amazing tour with Masae! We were three adults and two kids under the age of three and she was very patient and kind. Would highly recommend this tour as we were able to do just about everything we wanted to from feeding the deers in Nara park to visiting the matcha fields. We also got to try some fresh strawberry mochi! Lunch was also an excellent choice by Masae. If/when we go back to Nara will definitely reach out to Masae again!

Fantastic tour with Masae! She is very knowledgeable about Japanese culture, history, and local tea production, and we also really enjoyed hearing about some of her unique life experiences. Each stop of the tour was very beautiful and serene, from the lanterns in Kasuga Grand Shine to the rolling hills of the tea farms. Having Masae prepare matcha from a farm we toured was a very special and delicious experience. Highly recommended tour that is very thoughtfully put together for a relaxing and informative time.
