Roller Coaster Road
Roller Coaster Road and Gossip Road are two iconic destinations in Hokkaido, Japan, offering distinct experiences for travelers. Roller Coaster Road, situated in Biei, is renowned for its exhilarating twists and turns that mimic the sensation of riding a roller coaster. As visitors traverse this winding route, they are treated to breathtaking views of rolling hills and verdant fields, making it a favorite spot for both driving enthusiasts and photography enthusiasts alike. On the other hand, Gossip Road, located in Furano, captivates visitors with its bourbon-themed attractions and shops. Lined with distilleries, tasting rooms, and boutique stores selling bourbon-related products, Gossip Road combines the natural beauty of Hokkaido's countryside with the allure of bourbon culture. Both Roller Coaster Road and Gossip Road offer unique experiences that showcase the diversity and charm of Hokkaido's tourism offerings.
Shirogane Blue Pond
The Shirogane Blue Pond, located near the town of Biei in Hokkaido, is a stunning natural attraction famous for its otherworldly, vivid blue waters. The pond gets its mesmerizing blue hue from natural minerals, such as aluminum, that are carried into the water from nearby hot springs and reflect sunlight in a unique way. Surrounded by birch and larch trees, many of which stand submerged in the water, the pond creates a striking and surreal landscape that changes with the seasons and lighting conditions. In autumn, the contrast of golden leaves with the blue waters is especially breathtaking, while in winter, the pond and surrounding trees are often dusted with snow, transforming it into a magical frozen scene. The Shirogane Blue Pond has become a popular spot for photographers and nature lovers alike, offering a tranquil yet unforgettable experience in Hokkaido’s natural beauty.

This is probably a beautiful tour in summer or spring. We went in mid Oct and all we saw were empty fields and snow( which was at least something). But the attractions they take you too are all barren or closed up.

This was a big day out from Sapporo Central train station: north exit, hosted by our very informative and ever happy 😀 host Rita. It was around 2 hours drive to get to the start of our day in the mountains. We were fully informed in English/Mandarin. We had plenty of stops including the main attractions of the Blue Pond (amazing to see in real life) and the Flower Farm (plenty of colour left, but only a week or so & there would be little: we went on 18 October). Plenty of shopping available. The lunch stop was terrific, with most of us opting to buy our own. Rita helped organise everyone! The food was cheap but very nice: free hot tea was consumed as was a free ice cream. We started around 8.30am and returned at 5.30pm. Would we do this again: No, but only because these touristy places, in our opinion are, once seen, then ticked off as done. This is no reflection on our very capable and caring host Rita, who must have been exhausted after looking after our bus load of enquiring tourists all day. Was it worth the $$$ paid: in short, absolutely: you would be crazy to think you could do all that we did in a day by oneself via public transport or a rental car: if you had a week and could afford to stay in nice hotels out there and hire a car, you might: but we couldn’t. So in a nutshell, we would recommend that you spend our hard earned dollars on this all-day trip and lastly, we sincerely hope you get Rita: she is one of the best guides we have come across in our many years of international travel: 5 big cheers for Rita and our great bus driver!!! 👏🏽👍💁🏼 We know how important these independent honest reviews are to our fellow travellers, as we do. We know this is a long review & thanks for getting to this point: the end. ALGreynomads

The flower fields make for such an awesome view. It would have been nice to have had someone in the farm give some info on its operations too. Also beautiful to see is the Shirogane Blue Pond. Ningle Terrace sounds quaint but lacked activity. Very few sellers are actually inside the houses producing their crafts.

As it was still the end of summer, we were fortunate enough to catch the sight of colourful flowers but sadly no more lavender. Our guide, Rita of Gogoday Travel, was very cheerful and informative through the full day tour. I appreciated her pleasant disposition on a long day travelling in a bus. Thank you, Rita!
