This 3 days starter pack offers you a classical introduction to Ghana’s history and culture. Experience Ghana as the natives do, in its nearly undiluted naturalness, with memories worth repeating.

Explore the rich history and culture of the Ga people of Accra as you visit one of the fascinating communities of Accra-Jamestown. You will experience the contrast of this sprawling township with modern Accra. Travel through the coastal lands of Elmina and Cape Coast to see the infamous Cape Coast and Elmina Castles and Forts.

Crown your exploration with a visit to the Kakum National Park, one of West Africa’s few surviving tropical rain forests and challenge yourself to complete the walk cross on the Tree-top Canopy walkway which offers you a picturesque view of the forests or choose a 2 km nature walk through the forest to discover the wide variety of butterflies, birds and exotic floral species and the medicinal values they offer

Day 1

ARRIVAL IN ACCRA

Arrive in Accra; meet assist and transfer to the hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time the following sites may be visited today. Begin the city tour of Accra, go on a scenic drive through the beautiful and vast campus of University of Ghana, Legon. Visit Jamestown Community-One of Accra’s most historic neighborhoods where history resides on every corner. Best known for its lighthouses. The original structure was ruined but a larger and more improved lighthouse completed in 1921 is still functioning today. Experience the hustle and bustle of the Fish Market at the seashore as fishermen dock their boats and fish mongers sell their catch. Late afternoon visit to the Brazil House, to learn about the seven Afro-Brazilian families who returned to settle in Ghana in 1836. Familiar Brazilian/Portuguese last names such as De Souza, Palmares, Azumah, Amorin, Da Costa, Santos, De Medeiros and Olympio are abundant in this section of Accra. The rest of the day is at leisure.

ACCRA-CAPE COAST-ELMINA

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

After breakfast drive to Cape Coast – enroute visit Independence Square where you will see the enclosed flame of African Liberation, which was lit by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1961. Visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, final resting place of Ghana’s first president. Set in attractive gardens, there is an adjoining museum, which contains photos, artifacts and an insight into Dr. Nkrumah’s life. Continue to Cape Coast arriving in time for lunch. Late afternoon visit Cape Coast Castle a UNESCO World Heritage site which was one of the departure points for Africans being sent to slavery in the Americas. The Castle is home to the “Door of No Return”. This evening go on a guided tour through the ancient town of Elmina. At the harbor view the colorful fishing canoes getting ready to go to sea for another night’s task of fishing. This is a picture perfect opportunity for photographers. ELMINA-KAKUM-ACCRA/DEPART

Kakum National Park

After breakfast, visit Kakum National Park. Kakum is one of Ghana’s most famous parks. Take a brief walking tour on the forest floor; see birds, butterflies and perhaps catch a glimpse of the forests over 40 species of mammals including monkeys and the reclusive forest elephant. Kakum is famous for Africa’s only aerial walkway through the tree canopy, a 1000 foot long and seven-bridge walkway with viewing platforms that reach heights of over 150 feet above ground. OPTIONAL You may visit Global Mama’s where you will have a workshop. The Global Mama’s seeks to create wealth for African women and their families. Here you can design and make a beautiful Tye-Dye cloth as a takeaway souvenir. Early evening return to Accra; rest of the evening at leisure or transfer to the airport for your onward flight Meal(s) Included : Breakfast
