Join Erna and her husband, Thanos, in their seaside village outside Thessaloniki for an authentic and immersive Greek cooking experience. Step into their welcoming home and discover the flavors of northern Greece through a hands-on cooking class led by Erna. You’ll help prepare a variety of traditional side dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients such as feta or anchovies wrapped in wine leaves, fried aubergines stuffed with herbs and cheese, and a unique take on tzatziki made with purslane (strained yogurt with garlic, olive oil, lemon, and the peppery wild green). The cooking lasts about 1–2 hours and is designed to be fun, approachable, and deliciously rewarding. After cooking, sit down to a full meal with dishes you helped create, along with others prepared by Erna, paired with Greek wine and served in the dining room or garden, depending on the weather. Wrap up with coffee and homemade loukoumi (traditional sweets) as you relax and swap travel stories with your hosts. It’s more than a cooking class; it’s a heartfelt taste of Greek hospitality and culture.

This was a fabulous experience, such fun and such a wonderful couple. The food we made was fabulous, Tzatziki, Eggplant salad, Baked Feta, Lamb kebab, prawns with sweet chili sauce, Swiss chard, and creamy Greek yoghurt with apricots….also a cocktail with Martina, made with resin…. I am traveling by my self and they did not act like this was at all unusual…so if you are a solo traveler you’ll be made to feel so welcome. And it is so nice to actually visits someone’s home.

Writing a review for this experience feels like a gift. Because what a special, warm and wonderful evening this was! From the moment you step inside Erna and Thanos you feel welcome. Their beautiful home exudes personality, filled with art, stories and memories of traveling throughout Europe and beyond. The atmosphere is homely and genuinely cosy — like sitting down with good friends. Erna is a great hostess and cooking instructor. Everything she serves is homemade, including the fresh bread that comes out of the oven still warm. She loves to share her knowledge of cooking, ingredients and combinations — and does so in a relaxed, accessible way. Thanos really knows how to get everything perfectly flavored and cooked. Together they bring their Austrian and Greek roots to life in original, tasty dishes that you will talk about for a long time. This cooking class is not only educational, but also an experience that touches — thanks to the lovely people, the delicious flavors and the warm atmosphere. Nothing is too much to ask and everything feels like a party. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic, personal and delicious cooking experience. Erna and Thanos have stolen our hearts and these wonderful memories we will take with us forever.

It was wonderful to meet Erna and Thanos. They were both wonderful hosts and they engaged our tween/teen kids in the process and in the conversation. We got to take part in preparing multiple greek dishes, several of which we plan to make again at home. The food and company were excellent!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time with this family in their home. The food was wonderful and the fellowship so nice. We learned some Greek cooking styles and came home with the recipes to try them on our own. It was definitely a highlight during our time in Greece.

Erna was warm and welcoming from the minute we got to her lovely home. She had everything ready including a refreshment when we arrived so we could get started. Erna took the time to write down all of the ingredients in a notebook and left pages between so we could make notes about cooking measurements and instructions we may want once we got home. Erna cooks from her heart, so exact measurements in teaspoons and tablespoons were not used (I too cook that way so I was comfortable with that style). We chatted about food, family and life as we cooked and ate. It was an amazing experience and would highly recommend it for anyone who wants to meet an amazing human being from another country, learn how to make good food and have the experience of a lifetime.

a fantastic experience in the house of Erna. We were greeted very friendly, all went together to the weekly market to buy the ingredients. Cooking in the cosy kitchen was a sensual experience for the five of us. Many thanks to Erna and Voula, we would always like to come back

Excellent experience! We were able to choose transportation & alcohol as extras. Erna picked us up and walked us through a bustling farmers market to pick up ingredients. She explained many of the unusual vegetables that we don't see in the US. Then, we went to her lovely home in the countryside (about 30 mins outside of the city) to cook. And we jumped right in! The menu was extensive, delicious and quite simple to prepare, with guidance! All local ingredients, fresh & delicious! Highly recommend! You won't get 'recipes' though! She throws in a pinch of this & that and 'oh about this much' of that! Season to taste! Came out perfectly delicious.

We can’t say enough about Erna and her husband, Thanos, who so warmly welcomed us into their home outside of Thessaloniki for a wonderful evening, cooking experience and dinner. I worked with Erna as she helped me create several creative mezes that we had never tried before while my husband worked withThanos to make our yummy sea bream entree. Thanos promptly picked us up at our hotel and dropped us back over 5 hours later. That way, we got to enjoy the regional beer and wine without worrying about driving. We had a lovely dinner on their patio where we discussed our trips and mutual love of travel.

My husband and I traveled to Greece for three weeks and we wanted to experience an authentic home cooked meal with a local. Luckily I stumbled across this website. From the moment we booked with Erna we knew the experience was going to be amazing and we were so excited. We we warmly welcomed by Erna and Thanos and their fabulous children and partners. We could not of hoped for a more sublime lunch. The food was exceptional. It was the most authentic food that we had over our 3 weeks in Greece. We had many laughs over a very long lunch and will be forever grateful for this opportunity to share a meal in there home. We were sad to leave! If you are lucky enough to share a meal in there home you will have new friendships to treasure.
