Chandragiri Hills

This is a truly amazing trip as you ride effortlessly to the top of Chandragiri Hill (Elev. 2520 m). The trip will start as you travel from your hotel by private vehicle. The cable car starts at 8.00 am in the morning and closed at about 5.00 pm daily. The ride to the top takes just 10 minutes of truly breath-taking scenery as your gondola rises above the dense jungle below. As you climb higher, the mountain ranges become more and more visible. On top of Chandragiri Hill, walk around and enjoy the magnificent view. Here you will find the Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple, a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site that honors Sati Devi, the first wife of Lord Shiva. Enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the finest restaurants in all of Kathmandu (meals are not included in the price). The food is excellent and the scenery is outstanding. Finally, return to your private car by cable car, traveling down the mountain before taking the short 30-minute ride back to your hotel.

Ananta is an amazing tour guide. Taking the cable car to the mountain near Kathmandu was one of the highlights of my trip. The views were stunning—lush valleys, terraced hillsides, and the distant outline of the Himalayas. But what made the experience truly memorable was the cultural and historical storytelling along the way. As we ascended, I was captivated by the guide’s narration of Nepal’s deep-rooted history, its ancient kingdoms, and the spiritual significance of the mountain. I especially enjoyed learning about local myths and legends—stories passed down through generations that gave the landscape a magical, almost sacred feel. The blend of natural beauty and cultural richness made the ride feel much more than a simple trip up a mountain—it was a journey through Nepal’s soul. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kathmandu who wants a mix of scenic views and cultural depth.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our tour on the cable car. Although unfortunate that the weather didn’t allow visibility of the mountains, our tour guide Tej was so knowledgeable, entertaining and a great photographer - capturing our every move - and sharing our digital memories. Well worth the visit in Katmandu. From hotel doorstep return, we were in great hands with Tej!

I had a lovely trip to Chandragiri Hills with my guide Ananta. He was very knowledgeable and gave me a lot of information about the sights and Nepal in general. Also he told me many stories about the significance of statutes at the temple we visited at the top. Very patient and helped take many pictures of me since I was a solo traveler. Beautiful views of the mountain range and Kathmandu valley both in the cable car and the top. Highly recommend this trip with guide Ananta.

The 4 hour Chandragiri Hills Cable Car experience was perfect for our schedule. Ananta, our guide, was kind, knowledgeable, thoughtful and provided just the right amount of information. He worked within our timetable and we so appreciated his work along with our very skilled driver. We ended up learning a good amount of history plus culture and customs of today’s Kathmandu and Nepal. Thank you.

Taking the cable car to overlook Kathmandu and visit the Hidu temple were well worth it. Our guide, Pankaj, was informative, friendly, and was glad we asked numerous questions. Our driver drove very safely through these chaotic streets and we always felt safe. Pankaj also introduced us to MoMo, a chicken dumpling soup that was delicious. We got that soup plus drinks at the top of Chandaragiri Mountain after visiting the temple for a Hindu blessing. Great day!
