What To Expect
Parco Acheologico di Ercolano
Your day begins in Herculaneum, the smaller but astonishingly well-preserved sister city at the base of Mt. Vesuvius. Unlike Pompeii, which was buried under ash and pumice, Herculaneum was overtaken by a superheated volcanic surge that carbonized wood, sealed upper floors, and protected entire streets almost intact. The result is extraordinary: painted walls, wooden beams and doors, furniture, mosaics, and everyday objects survive with a level of detail that feels almost unreal. As you explore arcades, townhouses, and the ancient shoreline, your private guide will show how daily life in a wealthy Roman seaside community unfolded—where families dined, where merchants worked, and how residents navigated their city. Because Herculaneum is compact and far less crowded, it’s easier for both adults and kids to imagine real people moving through these spaces 2,000 years ago. Many travelers find Herculaneum to be the emotional highlight of the day: vivid and incredibly well-preserved.
Vesuvius National Park
We will see the volcano from the bottom. You can take great pictures from Pompeii and from Herculaneum. We are not going to drive to the top of the volcano.

5.00Our amazing guide for the day, Fabrizio picked us up at the scheduled time from our accommodation in Sorrento. first stop Pompeii, his knowledge is second to none and you can see his passion. So much better than following an umbrella in a crowded tour! We spent about two and half hours in Pompeii before stopping for lunch nearby, then we made our way to the Herculaneum. Being a private tour we were able to ask many questions which Fabrizio was more than happy to answer and discuss. Fabrizio dropped us off late afternoon. An amazing day that you will not regret. Our email communication before hand to arrange the tour with Vincenzo was also excellent. We would highly recommend Leisure Italy. Ps wear runners and bring water and hats if touring in the summer months. Thank very much Fabrizio and Vincenzo!!

5.00We cannot say enough wonderful things about Giuseppe! We had two tours with him (Pompeii and Herculaneum, and Gems of the Amalfi Coast), both of which were absolutely wonderful. The tours were well-planned, and the destinations were amazing, but what made those days so memorable was Giuseppe’s extensive knowledge of Pompeii, Herculaneum, and the Amalfi Coast. Giuseppe was a skilled and careful driver, and we felt very safe on the picturesque (narrow, curvy…) roads. Again, we cannot say enough wonderful things about Giuseppe — his thoughtful suggestions made both days more fun. We did optional wine tasting on both tours, which we highly recommend, as well. We will definitely book with Leisure Italy when we return to the Amalfi Coast, and we hope that Giuseppe will be available!

5.00We took the Herculaneum and Pompeii tour with Fabrizio…it could not have been more perfect. Fabrizio’s depth of knowledge is staggering and delivered with such thoughtful care. He is an incredible storyteller, bringing these ancient characters and places to life in a way that makes it feel so present and alive. Communication with Vincenzo was very easy and informative and travel between sites is extremely comfortable...lunch was fun and delicious too. They are able to personalize trips according to interest and priorities as well. We couldn’t recommend Leisure Italy more highly.

My wife and I had the most amazing day. Our day also included wine tasting and lunch. Recommended for anyone looking for a VIP/premium experience.

5.00Fabrizio picked us up at our hotel in Naples at 8:30. We were at Pompeii by 9:00am. He was a wonderful guide and we explored the site from end to end. To spend more time at Pompeii we opted for a quick sandwich for lunch. Then we were off to Herculaneum, which was also wonderful. Fabrizio was great. He led us at a pace that was perfect for our level of interest. He shared enormous amounts of information but always in a way that was interesting. We feel like we saw everything that we could have wanted to see. It was raining all day but that in no way dampened the experience. We had an excellent day and I strongly recommend the tour.

5.00Best tour of our entire 2 week trip. Far exceeded expectations and we had done several private tours of different areas throughout our vacation. Fabrizio was an amazing guide, the lunch at the winery on Vesuvius was so much better than we imagined. Both Herculaneum and Pompeii with a guide are a must do. Cannot recommend enough!
