The whole experience worth the 3:35 am departure from Cusco. The guides were amazing navigating all the logistics to be one of the first groups. They also were great in making sure you made it up safely. Of course the Rainbow Mountain portion was the highlight, but the ATV portion was a highlight as well. Amazing views of the landscape and all the adorable alpaca grazing in the fields along the way. We went in June and it was frigid, so be prepared to wear many layers. Invest in the cute Peruvian hat, gloves and neck warmers. It’s windy and cold at the top but so magnificent! We also enjoyed the breakfast and lunch that were provided.

We started with a long Bus ride from Cusco to reach Rainbow Mountain. The ride was 3.5 hours long and towards the end, the rough and winding road got a bit nauseating. Once we got to the destination, we had a nice breakfast. We are vegetarian and were pleasantly surprised that there were items we could enjoy. We then got onto the Quad Bikes. My wife had an ankle fracture and would not have been able to do a long hike without the quad bikes. This was perfect for us. She rode with me to the next stop. The scenery was amazing and we got to see hundreds of Llamas and Alpacas on the way. Remember, in June and with the altitude, it was very cold and hats, gloves and a good winter coat was a necessity. We then got to the next station where we each got on the back of motorcycles that took us up to the Rainbow mountain. It was an amazing scene and so glad we were able to do this trip. My wife was able to enjoy without having to walk very much with her ankle fracture. She thoroughly enjoyed it. There was another higher view point that would have required about a mile of hiking but the view was not significantly different. We had a nice lunch afterwards and then another 3.5 hour bus drive back to the hotel. Overall, I would definitely recommend this trip. Our tour guides Stephanie, Arturo and Yadira where amazing and very helpful.

Magnificent experience, the guides are very attentive, worried all the time about our well-being. We climbed on a quadricycle to the point where the vans stopped, then we continued on a motorcycle to virtually the top of the mountain. But the fact of going on a quad-cycle leaves a lot more fun, and you can see the snow-filled mountains with a lot more clarity, it's exciting! And the view of the mountain? I have no words to describe, I got out of there done!

We did it in June. Winter time. They picked us up at our hotel at 3:30 am. It was cold. Then we rattle away for 3 long hours in a van. If you think you can sleep on a van, forget about it. All the way I kept asking why am I doing it to myself? Then we arrived at the breakfast place. We came off the van and cold (34 F) and wind hit us, the altitude choked me and I really started questioning my sanity. What can justify that torture? Then we got hot tea, got on ATVs and started our ride up. THE VIEW!!! That was worth it! Mountains rising and falling, a river snaking away, llamas wondering around, glaciers far away. It was so beautiful and peaceful. And then we arrived at the bottom of rainbow mountain. We switched our ATVs to bikes. We sit behind a local riders and they brought us up one by one. The rest of the way we had to climb without help, it took us about 15 minutes, with making stops to catch a breath and to overcome initial dizziness. But we acclimated in a few minutes and got to the summit. I can’t describe the view. You MUST see it yourself. Magnificent is not even beginning to describe it. The colors of the mountains, the glaciers… if anything, the challenges of the tour: waking up at 3 am, bumpy ride in a van, morning cold, oxygen deprivation at the high altitude, it all just sharpen my senses, made the entire experience more magical and unforgettable. Don’t have any doubts, you can do it, and you should. Just don’t forget warm gloves and take warm clothes ( thermal ski wear would be the best), put coca leaves in your hot tea and you will be good to go. Arturo and his team were great.
