Rumi̇ Sema Ceremony Konya
The “Mevlevi Ayinleri Topluluğu” (Community of Mevlevi Ayinleri) within the Irfan Civilization Research Center (IRFA) performs the sema ritual. Sema’ means hearing or sensing in the dictionary. In Mevlevi literature, sema is a type of voluntary worship performed with rhythm and music, performed by spinning and turning from right to left around the heart. The purpose and intention of sema, which is the symbolic dhikr of Mevlevi, is to rise spiritually and cover distance on the path to Allah (cc). Sema’ was performed during the time of Hazrat-i Mevlana as a religious and mystical enthusiasm without adhering to a certain order. It is narrated that Hazrat Pir, who turned sema into a form of worship, started sema after meeting with Shams-i Tabrizi. The semahane located in the Irfan Civilization Research Center (IRFA) attracts the attention of visitors with its neo-classical architectural feature, inspired by the Mevlevi lodges in Turkey and various parts of the world.
