We'll explore the history of the Jewish people in Argentina, from its colonial times to modernity. As we navigate the history of a 200,000+ collective, we'll explore the neighborhoods of Once, Tribunales and Retiro.
We'll go beyond religious tradition as we explore how politics and the broad history of Argentina shaped and made it's Jewish population into what it is today.
Throughout our action-packed tour, we'll see AMIA, known as "the mother institution" of Jewish life in Argentina, which was targeted by a terrorist attack in the 90s, and visit the Jewish Museum and Libertad Synagogue. We will explore Once, a Jewish neighborhood and bulk trading district, strolling through synagogues, quinceañera party supply shops and fabric vendors. We will go to what we call "Diversity Corner": a place where just by standing 5 minutes, you'll witness all the diversity BA can showcase.

Melanie was one of the best guides I have ever had. She was able to frame Jewish Argentine history within the larger history of politics, immigration, and culture. She is knowledgeable, personable, and authentic.

This was one of the highlights of my trip to Buenos Aires! Melanie is knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic. She gave perspective of general Argentine history and wove in the Jewish perspective so that my understanding had breadth and depth. Walking through neighborhoods is the very best way to get a feel for a city.

My 21 year old daughter and I had a lovely tour with the super enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable Melanie. We had already been on 3 walking tours and it was great to hear about Buenos Aires from a completely different angle. Her detail on the terrorist atrocity in the 1990s was fascinating and we had previously heard nothing about the Menem years (which would be a great subject for a different walk!). Melanie's English is superb. She told us that her clients are mainly Jewish - we would recommend this walk to people of all denominations (or none!) as the subject matter is so broad. The synagogue is yet another beautiful Buenos Aires building and most unusual for a synagogue.

Melanie was a wonderful tour guide. She gave a very thoughtful and engaging presentation of the Buenos Aires Jewish community’s rich history, both its tragedies and triumphs. Her deep knowledge enabled her to address all of our questions thoroughly. When, through a miscommunication with the synagogue, the building turned out to be closed that day due to a Jewish holiday, Melanie quickly contacted her supervisor, who apologized and arranged for a partial refund. We ended the tour feeling like we’d had the privilege of getting a great introduction to Jewish Buenos Aires by a real insider as well as a friend.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. As a Jewish person visiting the city for the first time I was surprised at how much information there was on the Jewish community here and how entertwined it was with the history of the city. Melanie was a fantastic tour guide, sharing her own story and points of view and made the tour very interesting and comfortable. Was also a way to see some interesting parts of the city. Would definitely recommend to anyone, whether you’re Jewish or interested in the history

We had an absolutely fabulous tour and a wonderful day with Melanie! She was so interesting in explaining the incredible Jewish history, the triumphs and tragedies of the Jewish Peoples of Argentina and the City of Buenos Aires! We were totally intrigued by the wonderful stories that Melanie told while guiding us through (including a subway ride) the city. Melanie explained everything so well as we visited each sight and throughout our walk. We were so moved by the visit to the AMIA building and the stories that Melanie explained about the tragic bombing; standing near the Hospital's Mural and hearing about the rescue and recovery after the bombing.; the visit to the Buenos Aires Jewish Museum and the most beautiful synagogue, and so much more including a visit to the memorial at the Israeli Embassy bombing. Each place and the stories that Melanie told were incredible and the history became alive as she explained every place we visited. Melanie speaks absolutely perfect English and is so interesting, intelligent and a perfect guide for this incredible tour! Don't miss this wonderful experience!

Unfortunately we could not attend the Jewish museum at the end of the tour because we did not take our passports with us. I wish we had been advised to do so, as the copies of our passports were not acceptable.
