Our tour guide was very well organised. He showed up on time, so we were able to leave in a timely manner, and he discussed the plan with us in advance to make sure we were all happy with it. To benefit from the cooler morning temperatures he prioritised outdoor activities first then the cavern and it all worked out perfectly. His predictions about arrival times to certain places and return were very precise too and he shared some interesting facts and music with us along the trip. On our return to DC we got treated to “drop-off locations that best suit us” which was just such a welcome gesture. I do recommend this tour.

Galen is the perfect guide: warm, knowledgeable and helpful. The caverns were more than what we expected. You should definitely do this tour with Galen.

The reason I say it wasn’t value for money is because I paid $120 and the tour ended way too quickly. I felt like we were just rushing from point to point. I went with my parents and we were picked up at 8:30 am and were dropped off at 3:30 pm at the Virginia meeting point. The tour description says 8-9 hours and while that might be true for the tour picking up and dropping off from the first pickup point in Washington, DC, I came off feeling like I overpaid for this tour. Aside from $120, we also paid $34 for Luray Caverns and the surrounding museums. The Luray Caverns were amazing and takes about an hour to see but we were not able to see any of the museums in the vicinity because we had to also finish lunch during the same stop. This is a busy tourist spot and while one might think two hours is enough time, it is not. One needs to factor in long queues at the cafe or the toilets that eat up time. The tour guide or Viator should have also told us to bring bug spray or provided bug spray because we went for a short hike and sorely needed a bug repellent. It was an OK trip overall.
