Kompong Phluk
Discover Kampong Phluk – The Enchanting Floating Village of Cambodia. Kampong Phluk is a mesmerizing cluster of three villages built on towering stilts within the floodplain of Tonle Sap Lake, just 16 km southeast of Siem Reap, Cambodia. This hidden gem offers a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of over 3,000 inhabitants, who adapt to the lake’s dramatic seasonal changes. A Village That Transforms with the Seasons: Dry Season (Nov–May): As the water recedes, the towering 6–8 meter stilt houses stand tall, revealing the wooden poles beneath. Many villagers move onto the lake, setting up floating houses until the rains return. Wet Season (Jun–Oct): As the Tonle Sap Lake expands, the water level rises, turning the village into a true floating community. The flooded mangrove forests surrounding the village become a sanctuary for wildlife, including crab-eating macaques and a variety of fish and birds.
Travelers stop to visit the buddhist pagoda of WAT Roga where you will learn how buddist monks and villagers reply on each other.

We really enjoyed our trip to Kompong Floating Villages. We took a boat ride through the village, to see how the locals live on the water. We then took the boat out to Tonle Sap lake, which is Asia’s largest freshwater lake. We stopped at a floating restaurant on the lake, where they have food, restrooms, and some local fish/turtles/crocodiles for viewing. From there, a local woman took us on a paddle to the mangroves. As we went during dry season, the water was quite shallow and we were unable to take the boat through the mangroves. If you visit during rainy/wet season, you will be able to do so. Our driver/guide, Mr. Lim, was exceptional. He was very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed our day with Mr. Lim and enjoyed the tour he provided us. We also enjoyed learning about Cambodian people, their culture and way of life. Would highly recommend this tour!

The actual tour was interesting but going by Tuk tuk was a big mistake as the road is appalling, so very uncomfortable. The visit to the Buddhist monastery was great. We had to buy our own drinks on the lake but the driver did give us a gift after our tour as a thank you which was a nice touch.

This tour will forever last in my memory. Our English speaking guide Dy drove us by tuktuk about 50 minutes to the river where it meets the Lake. The experience was breaktaking. Dy, our guide was forever focused on providing an exceptional experience. His stories were fascinating. Our young boat operator was expert. We stopped to walk the village to see their amazing community of hardworking community, temple and houses. The children running free were adorable and resourceful too. The second highlight was the women-powered small paddled boats to explore the mangroves. The bird and fish live were interesting. Respectfully suggest to bring small bill denominations for tipping the boat drivers, women and temple. A little goes a long way here. This river community depends on tourism when they are not in moonsoon season.

Dy was our incredible English speaking guide. we spent the afternoon with him. we rode to the floating village, and I took took about 50 minutes away. The journey was interesting to get out of the city and see a more rural area. I highly recommend this tour as it offers a view of the most interesting way of life for a community living on the water and off the water. in addition to the motor boat ride to the lake with a stop to walk the neighborhood; we also had a stop to enter the mangroves with women powered rowboats. dy brought the whole experience to life. He is the most considerate tour guide, informative, and helpful. I suggest bringing in small bills, US currency or Cambodian for small tips go along way to this community.

The company was very prompt to collect us from the hotel. Received a whatapps notification and everything webt on smoothly. The ridevti the ticketting office, boarding a boat and taking the ride up to Tonle Sap Lake and up at Kompong Phluk were seamless. The guide was careful and had taken initiative to provide adequate information on the way of life for the people at the village. Look the sight of the children, happy and free from worries learning as much as they can in school. The entire trip is worth the while and it is an opener to both my wife and me.
