The experience takes place in a beautifully preserved a century old traditional house in Kamakura. This type of building, blending Japanese and Western architectural styles, was once common in the area, but very few remain today, and it is worth visiting just to see it. You can also enjoy the sight of Kamakura’s iconic Enoden line passing just next to the grounds, without leaving the building. Relax in the serene garden, surrounded by lush greenery, as you enjoy your handmade sushi in a truly timeless setting.
Also, we offer a complimentary canvas inscribed with 'Kamakura Sushi Sake,' hand-brushed by a professional calligrapher, as a special souvenir.

Discover the Art of Sushi in Kamakura -Learn the delicate craft of sushi from a master chef who trained and worked for over 20 years at Ginza’s most prestigious restaurants. With personal guidance, you’ll uncover the true essence of sushi craftsmanship—an experience rooted in tradition and refined technique. You’ll create 10 to 12 pieces of nigiri sushi using premium ingredients such as tuna, sea bream, shrimp, squid, yellowtail, and salmon roe, which are of the same high quality as those served at high-end sushi restaurants. The selection of sushi varies with the seasons. -The venue is a century old traditional Japanese house located just a 10-minute walk from Kamakura Station, on the way to the Great Buddha of Hase. Originally built as a luxurious villa for a wealthy Tokyo family, this historic home offers a serene setting where the Enoden train passes right beside the garden — you can savor the sushi you made yourself while watching the charming train go by. Just a 10‑minute stroll from the venue brings you to to the seaside where you can see Mt. Fuji. Viewed beyond Enoshima, Mt. Fuji appears like a scene straight out of a ukiyo‑e woodblock print.

I enjoyed a fun couple of hours learning about the fundamental techniques of sushi-making, eating sushi and drinking sake with a Japanese sushi chef. The experience took place in a traditional Japanese kominka house (which was a little difficult to find) near to the sea in Kamakura which added to the atmosphere. Overall recommended!

The workshop is located in a traditional house, located in a quiet and calm neighborhood. If you pass through a front yard full of colorful trees, you can see a nice, traditional Japanese house. I got to experience making sushi for the first time, in a place where warm afternoon light shines into the room. First, the instructor shows us how to make the sushi. Then you open the multilayered box, where there lays the ingredients for the sushi! All of the ingredients looked delicious and very fresh. Making the sushi was challenging, especially molding the sushi rice. However, the sushi I made was delicious, probably because I made it myself! The instructions were nice and clear, and the instructor was very kind towards us. Thank you for having us!! I will definitely come back again.

I went to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu early in the morning, checked out the Great Buddha, and then chilled and unwound in a cozy old Japanese house! The authentic sushi, delicious sake and the atmosphere there were all really awesome…to participate this workshop is the perfect way to wrap up the Kamakura day! I highly recommend!!!

This is an absolute gem for anyone visiting Kamakura! The approach to the classroom is stunning, with a peaceful Japanese garden that sets the tone. Stepping inside feels like a time-travel experience into a traditional Japanese house. The instructor teaches sushi-making with incredible authenticity, and comparing my own sushi to the instructor’s was a revelation—the difference in taste was unbelievable! They also serve premium sake selections you wouldn’t normally choose yourself, and every sip was delightful. From the second floor, you can watch the iconic Enoden train passing by—a perfect photo spot for travelers. The sushi toppings looked like sparkling jewels, and the serene atmosphere lets you experience the true essence of Japan with all five senses. If you’re looking for a cultural experience beyond sightseeing, this is a must-try. Highly recommended for food lovers and anyone who wants to dive deep into Japanese tradition!

I had the best sushi making experience in a hideaway old house in Kamakura! From the veranda you can see a lovely garden, and as soon as you listen, you hear Enoden running beside you. It is love at first sight for an extraordinary location. An authentic sushi chef carefully taught me how to make it, and it was the first time that I was able to make it properly "shaped like a chef"! The toppings and dishes are excellent, and I'm very satisfied with the sake tasting included. It was so much fun that I wanted to grip it at home when I got home. "Can you experience this in Kamakura?" And amazingly, it was a great time! It was a bit expensive but I thought it was worth it.

Recently started service so I imagine the process will get smoother over time. That said, here is what you get: 1. The location is a 100 year old Japanese house with a beautiful garden. It's not so far from the station and is pretty easy to find. Not many turns and the map from Google is quite clear - just make sure you o go around the corner (left) until you see the sign (see photos) 2. The sushi chef is the real deal. His credentials check out and although his English isn't perfect, he speaks enough and is very good at showing/demonstrating the sushi making process which is the easiest way to follow anyways. The fish was amazing. Fresh and delicious; you can tell he picked choice cuts of meat for the lesson. 3. After learning how to make proper sushi, out comes the sake. Another knowledgeable instructor will present a few different types of sake for you to try. I'm not sure if they will be the same everytime, but the 3 that I tried were all fantastic and so different that I'm sure even people who aren't huge fans will find something they like! Overall, the experience was fantastic. The whole Kamakura area is fantastic for spending a day at - the Great Buddha, other temples and Shrines, the cafes and other shops around town, and I think this sort of experience that could make it an even more satisfying day trip. That said, the quality of the course and the experience itself is definitely worth the short trip from Tokyo!
