You will understand the reasons why one of the most flourishing Sephardic communities was established in Toledo since the 4th century, with its more than 10 synagogues, its Talmudic schools, Mikveh and various archaeological remains that show us the reality of the Jewish quarter of Toledo, an authentic “city within a city” A unique experience is waiting for you to show you spaces in the underground of Toledo, called Unknown Heritage, such as archaeological remains of ancient ritual baths and rests of the ancient walls.

Javi was incredible. Any question I asked he turned (even if I felt it was not the best…i.e. what was the Spanish Inquisition) into a fantastic response. He tied in his own family history with the Spanish Civil War. We talked about politics, Spain, and of course Jewish history in Spain. He showed us an underwater cistern only he could open up. The synagogues made me feel closer to my routes. I wish Javi could have spent the whole day with us!

We learned so much history and had fun on this tour. Our guide Javi was amazing and grew up in the area so the tour was full of local information.

Irene gave us an excellent tour of Jewish Toledo. She was very informative, taking us through the Jews’ history in Spain, and particularly in Toledo, in a clear and compassionate way. She is a wonderful guide and I would take her tours on any subject!

Our guide was very knowledgeable. We had a nice taxi ride into the city with a few stops along the way to learn some history of Toledo which was awesome. Even though it was raining some she took the time to guide through areas with some shelter. We learned so much about the Jewish tradition in Toledo.

We did a private tour with Fernando of both the Old Jewish Quarter and the Cathedral of Toledo, and we absolutely loved it! Fernando is truly an encyclopedic wealth of information. We were both somewhat familiar with the general history of Toledo and Spain, but we learned – and saw – so much with him. Definitely take his advice to go to the Toledo overlook. It’s worth the short and affordable taxi ride. I don’t know how we did it all in a day. Throughout the tour, Fernando was extremely thorough and friendly. He was also kind enough to meet us at the train station, guide us to our great lunch spot (El Botero - which he recommended), and get us back to the train station at the end of the day: door-to-door service. What a great day learning about the history of Toledo. Thank you so much, Fernando!
