San Basilio De Palenque

We invite you to discover a town that has maintained its marked identity for more than 400 years: the little corner of Africa in Colombia. Here is the time it will take to get from one place to another You will learn the history of the first free people of America. You will connect with ancestors and the African roots of Palenque de Benkos Biohó (Founder of Palenque). Enjoy the dance show, learn their traditional dance steps, and play the drums. Learn the Bantu language from Guinea and Congo accompanied by a native guide. We will make a stop in the town square, the house of Kombilesa mi; the folkloric rap group, the museum house, the Palenque Viejo, and traditional medicine. At the end, we will have lunch a delicious typical Palenquero dish.

We made sure we had a chance to visit Palenque as part of our Cartagena experience. I was aware of the special history of the region and wanted to better understand the history of the journey to emancipation of this well known community and how they fought for freedom. This tour exceeded my expectations. My greatest fear in he beginning was it was going to be too touristee and exploitive and the opposite came true. The guides were native Palenquens and took the time to guide us through this rich, beautiful and tight-knit community. Each stop was well thought out and celebrated dance, food and indigenous medicine practices. We all walked away better for the experience. Romeo and his associates were amazing guides and the trip ended with a great lunch with local food. We highly recommend this experience.

This tour was very enjoyable and friendly to solo travelers, I felt immediately included and part of the group. The dance was very fun and I'll be walking away knowing so much rich history. Highly recommend to go.

Had a beautiful time in Palanque! If you enjoy learning about culture and history, this is a tour not to miss. Romero is knowledgeable and funny. The bus is air conditioned and consider the 1.5 hour ride there. The people of Palanque are kind and the dancers are great! Bring small bills for tipping and souvenirs. It can be quite hot, wear moisture wicking clothing, a hat, and water. I would highly recommend.

Romeo the tour guide was amazing. We learned so much powerful and knowledgeable information about Palengue. Very beautiful city I would definitely recommend trying this excursion. And the food was nice and seasoned. Very good!

I truly enjoyed my experience during this tour. Romeo and the team was very informative, entertaining, and made you feel like a part of the culture. The art is colorful& bright. I would do this again for sure.
