Very nice immersive experience into some cultural history of Palenque. It’s a very special place and I felt connected to my African roots. Would like some free time to walk around and explore by myself. The guides were really helpful tho

This was my favorite tour during my stay in Cartagena. Roméo was an excellent tour guide. He was so knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I learned so much about the wonderful people in Palenque. They are the true definition of resilient. So rich in history. The $100 USD was so worth it. It was about 1.5 hours to get to Palenque so I appreciate that they picked us up in an air conditioned bus. We came back late afternoon on the same bus. However, because I was staying in Crespo, they dropped us off with a private car along the way back. It was SO hot, so make sure you bring sunscreen. They let you borrow an umbrella if needed, but I brought my own. They also give your cold water but it quickly heats up due to how hot it is. We had about 10 tourists in our group and Roméo constantly counted us to make sure we stayed together as a group. This is an experience that EVERYONE should try.

Enjoyed the music, dancing, and learning from various people in the community. Doing a tour is important so that you can learn a lot of the cultural history that you wouldn’t get walking around, and to get money into the community! This tour was well-organized, and there was a whole group of guides with us, so it was easy to ask questions. Food was great, good vegetarian option.

This experience was great with Romeo and other guides in training teaching us about the Palinquero culture which teaches that the fight for independence continues. I love to dance so I really enjoyed getting to dance with the Batata School students. Additionally, I liked the murals that connect to the power of resistance through practices still carried over from Africa during and after slavery.

So first, I loved the tour. The dancing, food , history and especially the medicine man was a unique experience I've never seen anywhere else. The miss representation was that it's not a 5 hour tour but could be up to 8 or more. Why? If they pick you up first then spend an hour and a half driving all over the city picking up the other tourists the bus time explodes. I was cool with it on the way there. Just assumed that they would take the same route on the return and we would be dropped off first, right? Nope the last to be picked up was the first to be dropped off. Then the guide kept us there for a while, as the other tourists went to thier room to get the guide a tip. We spent way more time on the bus than on the tour. So what you need to know is that the bus is old, with seats wore out, bad a/c that barely works, not pleasant. If you decide that 5 hours on a bus is not a problem then you might really enjoy this tour. I have limited vacation time and a dank hot bus is not my idea of a good time. If my write up gives you pause just ensure that you will be last to get picked up and first off. My advice to the tour company, taking a taxi is cheap, so pick a central location and ask that everyone goes there. And that is the place to leave from and arrive back at. The tourists staying at these posh resorts can certainly afford a 10$ cab ride.
