Fascinating, honest, educational, traditional, enlightening. I've drank tea for 50 years, now I know what I have been drinking for all that time and I will drink it with a greater understanding and appreciation. I booked via Viator which I'd do again, although people did rock up and pay. Space is limited although there a tour starting evey 30 mins or so. We had to wait 20 mins, but not a problem as the views are amazing and the shop is an education in itself. You see the whole process of tea making. Much if the equipment is 70 years old but there's some modern machines too, like the machines that sorts the leaves by colour. Great guide showed us arround. Ended with tea tasting. There's no pressure to buy and the shop could be far more commercial (no tea towels for sale - the only disappointment!). The factory is a 10-15 ride from Ella so best get the driver to stay, it's normal and they expect to. From leaving our hotel to returning took about 2 hours. I thoroughly recommend it.

We did this tour immediately after the plantation tour and the two complement one another well, both offering different insights into the two sides of the tea production journey. Seeing how labour intensive each step of the process is definitely makes me appreciate my morning cuppa much more. A really interesting and well organised visit and thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic tea factory tour! Surprisingly informative and up close experience. Siva was our guide and enthusiastically explained tea science and chemistry. Then we toured the factory. I was pleasantly surprised they let us walk the factory floor and explore the machines and examine the tea at each stage. This tour has a lot of hazards, so you need to be careful of unprotected factory equipment, heavy machinery, hot surfaces, and hot rooms. The tour finishes with tea tasting and an explanation of the marketing terms to understand what type of tea you are drinking.

Learning about how they extract and harvest the tea is really interesting and seeing the process from start to finish was amazing!

We did the hand made tea tour, highly recommended! Very kind the young guy who guided us! We took our own tea leaves and later we cooked and tasted it!
