If you love living green, then Ella is obviously a place to visit. Ella Rock is one of the place which proves it.
Trekkers would love the place. It’s bit tiring to do the hiking. But it is definitely worth it. Once you got to the summit you will realize why we said so. The panoramic views it provides with mist and cloud covering the area, especially in the early mornings and the late evenings are something you should witness and that would suffice enough to say that you visited Ella.
Total time for climbing up and down is 4 hours. Yes, sounds like a long journey. But the way up there is with full of diversity. If you are starting form Ella train station, you would enjoy the rail walk, and soon as you started climbing up, you will be passing a waterfall, the rubber tree forest and tea plantations.
On a rainy day, it can be slippery, so better be cautious with what you wear for the journey. Wear something suitable for a hiking and towards the end of the hike,.still manageable.

• 4.00 am -pick up from the Ella For sunrise-tour or • 8.00 am – pick up from the Ella For good morning tour or • 2.00 pm -pick up from the Ella For sunny afternoon tour. If you are visiting the area, Ella Rock should be on your bucket list as it is one place you get some dashing panoramic views in Sri Lanka. Ella rock sunrise hike is a wonderful experience for travelers. It is breathtaking to view the sunrise from Ella rock.You can see this mountain from anywhere in Ella. This hike is much needed activity for adventure seekers and nature lovers. If you see a rock holding a lone tree proudly on the top of it, yes that’s the one. This will be a lifetime memory for most of the travelers with stunning views over the valleys of Sri Lanka.

5.00The ella rock hike was amazing. It was well led by a skilled guide Sam who was so friendly the entire journey and good at photos. He also gave us footwears that protect the legs and foot from the leeches. Fortunately we did not face any of them, but I think they will be helpful in rainy days. Aside from that, due to many cancellations following the cyclone, it seems many tour operators in Ella are struggling. It was hard to reach out to Ella excursion tour and we thought the tour was not going to happen until the night before. But Sam contacted us to confirm the booking and it went as planned. I hope it all goes back to normal soon. Otherwise the Ella rock hike is absolutely beautiful and a must do activity during your stay!

5.00We had some difficulties contacting the operator but the night before the tour I received a message from the tour guide Sam and we went hiking as planned. It seems many operators in Ella are having issues due to cancellations from the cyclone. Regardless, we had amazing time with Sam, who was really friendly and seems to know all the towners. Thanks Sam for amazing pictures!

1.00I got stood up. I couldn't reach the tour operator, they never answered my calls or messages. I waited at 4am for a pick up that never came and lost my only chance to visit the place at sunrise. No explanations, nothing. I got a message from Viator the refund is on it's way but still haven't heard anything from the tour operator.

5.00I booked last minute and they were very kind me to accomodate me. My guide Dila was very nice and patient. He showed me different viewpoints and also explained few things along the way. Definitely worth it!

Sam his very keen on giving all the insights about his native region and very savvy regarding Ella’s landscapes, nature and Sri Lanka’s customs as well. 5.00We had the pleasure of experiencing the Ella rock hike with Sam, he was very helpful picking us up from our hotel even after it was not put correctly on our booking, he provided hiking sticks to help with the steep parts of the hike and big waters bottles for both of us, he was very informative and told us lots about the plants around us and what their used for as we made our way up as well as showing us each thing he spoke about! Would 100% recommend going with Sam!

5.00I went to the ella rock with Sam. It was an amazong hike. Sam knew a lot of plants, things about Ella and explained me a lot. I really enjoied the hike with him. I felt totally safe an comfortable (I can really recommend it for solo travelling women).
