You will be collected between 08:00 and 08:45 from your hotel in Windhoek. We will then start our tour heading into the Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari is a fossil desert, not a true desert as it receives too much rain. Its enchanting landscape is made up of small red dunes, golden grass and deep blue skies. It stretches across 7 countries, including Namibia, South Africa and Botswana. Our lodge is strategically situated in the centre of the Kalahari in an area peppered with Camelthorn trees. It is built with thatch and blessed with a staggering stone pool which attracts the occasional Oryx. Accommodation is in rondavel-style thatched huts which look out over the captivating landscape of the desert. In the afternoon you will enjoy a sundowner drive with the lodge to experience this magical place and spot some of the animals which live here, including several variety of antelope and zebra.

Mariental

Mariental Situated in south central Namibia, fringing the Kalahari Desert, the city of Mariental lies along the TransNamib railway and serves as the Hardap Region’s commercial and administrative capital. It provides an important petrol stop before heading west to Sesriem to view the red-orange dunes of Sossusvlei. Mariental is located close to magnificent the Hardap Dam, which is the largest reservoir in Namibia. The Hardap Irrigation Scheme has breathed life into this arid terrain, which is now fertile with farmlands covered in citrus, melons, lucerne, wine and maize, and dotted with ostrich farms. The dam is a popular holiday resort which draws city slickers from Windhoek and offers an array of watersports, scenic walks, and abundant wildlife in a 20000-hectare nature reserve set on its western bank; where visitors can spot rhino, ostrich, antelope, springbok and a variety of bird species.

Deadvlei

Dead Vlei This ancient clay pan was once an oasis, studded with acacias and fed by a river that suddenly changed course, leaving the earth to dry up along with the trees it previously supported. So dry were the climatic conditions that the trees never decomposed – instead they were entirely leached of moisture so that today, 900 years later, they remain as desiccated, blackened sentinels dotting the pan’s cracked surface. Surrounded by the red-pink dunes of the Namibia Desert, they create a surreal spectacle that is a photographer's dream.

Dune 45

Dune 45 Named for its location 45 kilometres past the town of Sesriem, Dune 45 is renowned for its elegant shape, which – along with its position close to the road – have earned it the distinction of ‘most photographed dune in the world’. If you’re not keen for the strenuous hike to the top of Big Daddy, Dune 45 is a more forgiving alternative, standing at only 80 metres and featuring a much gentler gradient.

Sesriem Canyon

Sesriem Canyon Hike Sesriem Canyon, a deep chasm carved through the rocks by water, is a striking natural feature of the area that is best explored on foot. Stony walls rise up sharply on both sides of the canyon, while birds roost in its crags and lizards dart along the ledges. The canyon’s name was coined when early settlers used it as a water source, using six lengths of leather (‘ses riem – six thongs) tied together to lower buckets into the water at the base of canyon.)

It was this spring that attracted Stone Age hunters over six thousand years ago, and it was during this time that the extensive group of rock engravings and paintings were produced. When dry, the pan sustains little life except for the algae that gives it its distinctive colour, and migratory birds that use it as a pit stop, but with heavy rain it becomes a shallow lake where flamingos breed, pelicans wade and feed, and a variety of mammal species come to quench their thirst, including leopards, lions, white rhinos, hunting dogs and antelopes.

Our group of six have just completed a magnificent 15 day Private Namibian Highlights Accommodated Safari with Blue Crane Safaris. From the commencement of the safari in Windhoek to our return, the itinerary was planned to perfection. From the time we met our Guide and driver Me Gusto at Windhoek, we knew we were in for an awesome 15 days. Me Gusto’s energy & passion is second to none - all day every day, he connected with everyone in our group & we all connected with him. Me Gusto’s intimate knowledge, experience and explanations of Namibia’s history, cultures, climate, geology, scenery, flora, fauna & wildlife was brillant. The interactions, discussions & laughs we had made the trip fly. Each morning, Me Gusto would brief the group on the travel planned for the day, what we would expect to see and what we could possibly see (with a few surprises in between). The Landcruiser was spacious, comfortable and always presented clean (inside) each day. Me Gusto’s ability to spot wildlife was unbelievable and provided each of the group an opportunity to view and photograph everything we wanted and ensured that we got the best opportunities at each location throughout the entire safari. Every day, every location was a highlight. The accommodation at each stay was stunning - more than we expected. The meals throughout were fantastic. In summary to describe our Namibian experience - “Namibia is a place of unbelievable excitement, beauty & contrasts. The people of Namibia are so friendly and cannot do enough to help you. Don’t just put Namibia on your bucket list - do it” Thank you to the Blue Crane Safaris Team, and thank you again, Me Gusto, you are truly a legend. When you wear the “Pith” don’t forget your NabMadFam from Australia!!

We selected Blue Crane as our tour operator for 11 days in Namibia after reading so many positive reviews. It also had the itinerary we were looking for. From the moment we connected with Jamie to gather further details and throughout our time on tour, the level of commitment to the client experience exceeded our expectations. The stops, accommodations, restaurants and experiences curated for this tour gave us exactly what we were hoping for-a stress-free overview of this diverse, unique country. It was our first time in Africa and this was all we could have hoped for. A big reason for this was our guide, Justus. He was knowledgeable, attentive, sincere, and very hardworking. He had everything so well-organized that we were able to immerse ourselves completely in the experience. He is a fantastic ambassador for Blue Crane and for the country he clearly cares about. I’ll be recommending him and Blue Crane to friends and family.

This was an exceptional experience. Blue Crane Safaris is a wonderful group that puts together safe, thoughtful, and high quality experiences. There is a strong emphasis on the guest experience and even in a small group trip, we felt that it was an incredibly high touch and customized experience. Our guide Justus was the best guide I have ever had for any trip. He is so knowledgeable, calm, organized, and friendly. I will never forget him and the amazing experience he crafted for all of us. He worked tirelessly to ensure a positive and enriching experience. Thanks to his experience and instinct, we had amazing animal sightings — we saw every single animal we had hoped to see, and at quite close proximity and with lots of action in some cases. We felt completely safe and confident in his abilities at all times. Justus also taught us about Namibia’s history and culture in each place we visited. I have never had such a thorough guide — he is a walking dictionary. This was quite a comfortable trip despite covering so much ground. Though the days were full and had many activities, it was not overly exhausting. I could not recommend more highly this tour agency and especially Justus — truly a life changing trip and amazing time. I hope to one day return and will recommend this to everyone I know.

What can I say… trip of a lifetime. Not only was Namibia incredible (beautiful, ethical, and focused on conservation), our guide Justus was the most knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining guide we have ever had. He and blue crane in general REALLY care about the guest experience and it shows day in and day out. The whole time we felt safe and everything was handled in the background. Justus would continually go out of his way to make sure everyone was happy and having a good time - from the way we would look for lions and rhinos to the facts he would teach us about the animals and culture. If you are wondering whether to do Namibia, DO IT - the landscapes were so varied we felt like we were on another planet. And if you are wondering if blue crane, I could not recommend them enough - be sure to ask for Justus for an over the top experience.

Excellent service all round - couldn’t recommend them highly enough. From initial communications with Derek who helped to advise us through a suggested itinerary and route, was accommodating to our budget, happy to make any changes and provide alternatives when asked, and provided ongoing communications and information up until our departure date. The trip itself was fantastic - our guide Frank could not have been more knowledgeable, kind and helpful, and certainly contributed to make our holiday such a memorable experience. Namibia itself is a lovely country. Thank you Blue Crane Safaris!

Fabulous trip to Namibia on an 11 day accommodated tour. Markus was our guide and was very knowledgeable and accomodating. He made sure we had rooms with views at the lodges we stayed at and was attentive and made sure the trip was enjoyable and ran smoothly. Our vehicle was a new 4wd with lots of safety features- shoulder seatbelts, a tracking system, speed limit monitors. Our guide was a safe and careful driver. The lodges were quite luxurious and all were unique, clean and comfortable. Some had breathtaking views. The trip overall was well planned and well paced showcasing the varied Namibian landscape- semi desert, dunes/desert/ coast/savannah. Game drives were fun and we saw lots of animals up close. Thumbs up to Jamie as well whom we first made contact with at the blue crane safari’s office and organised all the pre- departure arrangements. Namibia is a gorgeous country. Their hospitality industry is well developed and offers a safe, hassle free, highly enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend blue crane safaris! Excellent holiday.

I almost got killed by using blue crane safari for my tour in August 2024. On a perfectly sunny day, on wind, on other vehicle near us at all, our driver crashed our vehicle while making a right turn. Our vehicle rolled over about 300 feet to the bottom of the rocky cliff, three passengers in back seat were thrown out of the car window on to the rocks. I have travelled a lot for many years and have never had this kind of awful and irresponsible experience from a professional tour company. After the accident, blue crane safari refused to allow me who is lightly injured out of 5 to continue the trip and even refused to refund the the cost of the trip they refused to continue. Feels like a robbery and the behavior is inexcusable

Blue Crane Safaris through Derek organised this tour for my wife and myself. It was absolutely tremendous. Each day provided new sights and experiences. Our driver Frank was a good companion, knowledgeable and excellent guide. The tour I thought was great value for money. The accommodation on a whole was very good. The Toyota Forerunner we had, was only a few months old and very comfortable. Derek runs a tight ship. Trip was actually 18 days Highly recommended.

No words will ever be enough to thank Blue Crane Safaris Namibia for organizing the best private tour of my life! Everything was more than perfectly organized! As a travel agent, I am very happy to have found Blue Crane to be the ideal partner for future trips of my clients as well, as their personalized and tailor made service can meet the needs of any traveler From the first moment I contacted them, I felt that I was dealing with a truly knowledgeable and competent staff; in particular Jamie, in the early stages of trip design, was very attentive, thoughtful, and quick to understand our needs. I am convinced in saying that this tour to Namibia was by far the one that gave me the strongest emotions. Besides the wonders of a spectacular country, I am sure that the presence of the fantastic guide Sebe was decisive. He is a very knowledgeable, attentive and caring guide, as well as a guy with a heart, helpful and full of humanity. We are truly grateful for having him accompany us. I arrived in Namibia as a tourist and left as a friend. His friendliness really overwhelmed us! On a practical level, the tour was perfectly organized; the vehicle was comfortable and our guide took great care to make sure we always found it clean and tidy. The accommodations that were recommended to us were spectacular, very comfortable and in dream locations. The experience with this tour operator was vastly above expectations I can do nothing but 100% recommend it for your next trip to Namibia.
