Herring Cove
Herring Cove is the best place we can drive to for the chance to spot some wildlife. Bears are very common there especially in salmon spawning season (mid July through late September) If any questions please call 9078218383 Bald eagles are extremely common there from May to August. There are many different bird species you can sometimes spot including Kingfishers, blue heron, steller blue jays, and ravens. other possible wildlife includes seals, salmon, Sitka blacktail deer, and otters.
Salmon Ladder
We make this stop only during salmon spawning season, and you can see salmon jumping up the rapids, and swimming up the ladder. Customer service: 9078218383

We did this tour on September 25. Apparently that is pretty late if you want to see wildlife such as eagle activity and black bears. We saw a lot of seagulls at Herring Cove. No bears or seals. We did spot a bald eagle perched in a tree as we were leaving. We stopped at the salmon ladder walkway. Would have loved to explore that further but we had no idea how long we were staying at that site. It would be helpful for the guides to give us an idea of how much time we have at each location so we can explore on our own for a few minutes. The Totem museum was the highlight of the day. If you're hoping to see wildlife I probably would not recommend this tour after September 5.

Went on this trip a week ago, booked just the day before and so glad we did. Daniel our guide was great, very knowledgeable, fun and interesting. Took us to some great spots and you could tell he genuinely loves his town of Ketchikan. Would recommend.

Although we didn’t get to see a bear, the excursion was worth it! It was a very rainy day, river was high and flowing fast. Saw some salmon, explored the Totem Pole Museum, saw a waterfall and learned a lot about Ketchikan and the culture. Our guide was great!

Daniel was very informative on the tour. He explained all about the wild life we saw and hoped to see. For the bear that was spotted he took our group on to the area that it was heading to in the hope of a closer encounter. He was very accommodating and dropped us off where we wanted to be rather than the meet place
