Great guide who knew his food and the city well. A lot of “value add” and shared his knowledge of the history and culture of the city.

The tastings are delicious and we got to see and learn about places I otherwise would not know about. Alexis is an exceptional guide—organized, informative, and fun. She took a personal interest in each of us and we formed a delightful little group.

I’ve done a lot of food tours over the years, and sadly this one in Austin fell short, possibly one of the worst. Our guide, Alexis, was fine at first, but her storytelling felt overly rehearsed, like she was reading from a script that lost its spark halfway through. First stop? An iced coffee. On a food tour. I’m here to eat, not audition for a barista class. The second stop, thankfully, was the highlight, a tasty meatball sub. But instead of enjoying it outside on a beautiful Austin day, Alexis insisted we sit in front of the pizza oven. Nothing like sweating through your sandwich to “see the magic happen.” From there, things went downhill faster than queso on a hot plate. The next stop was a taco shop, because who could ever predict tacos on a Texas food tour? She even explained that tacos al pastor were Tex-Mex. I had to politely (okay, maybe not that politely) correct her. I’ve eaten my body weight in pastor tacos; that’s not Tex-Mex, that’s just Mex. Next up: a sugary handmade soda stop. Because apparently we needed another drink instead of, you know, food. Then, the grand finale, Torchy’s Tacos. Don’t get me wrong, I like Torchy’s, but it’s a chain. Having it on a “local” food tour felt cheap and uninspired. We ended with an overcooked cookie, which pretty much summed up the experience, burnt out and disappointing. To top it off, Alexis would ask questions, pretend to be interested, then interrupt before anyone could finish a sentence. If I wanted to be talked over while eating mediocre food, I’d go to a family reunion. Overall, this was a miss. Save your appetite, and your money, for a real Austin food experience.

This was the best food tour I have ever done. The food was excellent but most of all, Pola, our tour guide was amazing! She had so much great history and information about Austin and was such a lovely person, we enjoyed all the food and conversing with Pola like she was an instant friend! Thanks again Pola for an awesome experience. Highly recommend this food tour with Secret Food Tours and Pola in Austin!

The address was not the correct meeting spot. The Food that we had was boring and wasn’t what the restaurants were known for. The tour guide had us stop at gift shops, candy stores - gave us kiddy drinks and coffee shops. Didn’t seem like a food tour. Not worth the money at all.
