Enjoy the scenic landscapes of Minho, noted for its popular Vinho Verde, and visit two of the region’s historic cities, Guimarães and Braga, to discover their architectural heritage. The first stop on this full-day tour is Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal. The city center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Marvel the Guimarães Castle, dating from the 10th century, where you’ll learn about the early period of Portugal’s history. Admire the Dukes of Bragança Palace and the architecture of this medieval city, full of unique buildings, streets, and squares.
Continue to Braga, a city once occupied by the Romans and one of the most important Christian centers of Portugal. Take a break to enjoy a traditional lunch with Vinho Verde. After that continue learning about the history of Braga and pay a visit to its most important landmarks such as the Cathedral from the 11th century, Bom Jesus do Monte, and the Sameiro Sanctuary. Guimaraes Castle
Upon arrival in Guimarães, we begin our tour in the upper part of the city, where the Guimarães Castle is located. Our guide will tell you about Portugal's early history as you pass Portugal's oldest medieval castle and begin the descent into the city center.
Igreja de Sao Miguel do Castelo
This church dates back to the 13th century and is currently classified as a national monument. It is a building built in the Romanesque style, which was rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century according to its original appearance. There is a legend associated with this church, according to which the first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, was baptized here.

We had an excellent day with Cheila today. We shared an authentic Portuguese meal and we let Cheila do the ordering. It was delicious. Portugal is experiencing a crazy storm right now and Cheila timed the tour to maximize the dry spells. She was a wealth of knowledge and her driving skills were appreciated - taking all the pressure off of us going ourselves. This is the only way to visit these towns for the first time - you need someone to explain what you’re seeing or you’ll miss too much. We enjoyed the day very much

We had an absolutely wonderful experience on our small-group private tour to Braga and Guimarães. Our guide, Nuno, was exceptional from start to finish. He brought us to all the most important landmarks and shared fascinating insights into the history and culture of northern Portugal. His genuine passion for the region really made the day special. Throughout the tour, Nuno made sure we felt safe and comfortable, and the vehicle was very clean and relaxing to travel in. Everything was perfectly organized, and we never felt rushed — just the right balance of guided exploration and free time to enjoy each place. It was truly a perfect day spent diving into the rich history of Portugal, especially in two of its most significant ancient cities. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants an informative, enjoyable, and memorable experience.

Amazing experience with the Porto Road Trip! The tour of Braga and Guimarães was very well organized, with a calm pace and enough time to enjoy each place. The guide was super friendly, attentive and shared many curiosities about the history and culture of Portugal. The cities are charming — Braga, with all its beauty and joy, and Guimarães, with all its historical charm. A must-see tour for those who want to know a little more of the North of Portugal!

Outstanding tour of two historic cities. Our guide was very informative. Moderate walking but not strenuous. Only issue was that there were Spanish and English speaking people on the tour. The guide was fluent in both languages and repeated the dialogue in both languages. This added significantly to the tour time. Additionally one of the Spanish speaking passengers was rudely having a conversation during the guides English dialogue.
