Nothing screams Spanish Mediterranean louder than Paella. Yet visitors often miss out on the joy of a quality paella. They are lured into tourist traps and served yellow, overcooked rice filled with preservatives and lacking flavour.
Our executive chef became popular among locals when they ran the kitchen at Kaiku restaurant in the fishermen’s neighbourhood of La Barceloneta, facing the sea, where their invention for giving his rices an irresistible smoky aroma was born. We use “The Volcano”, a custom-made “hat” that smokes the paella for a few minutes with sprigs of rosemary adding a touch of flair and the coveted aroma to the dish.
To accompany the experience, we offer the opportunity to learn to make an authentic and quality sangria, and what to look out for when buying one in a bar or restaurant. To go above and beyond, we share local knowledge and advice on Spanish wines - useful tips guests can take home with them after the holidays.

Picture this: a cozy reception at our new venue (Roots Gastro Club) in a spacious and stunning space. We’ll have a cava glass waiting for you, with a secret garden terrace. It’s going to be a memorable experience, all thanks to Foodies Xp on Viator’s Experiences. First things first, we’ll give you a quick rundown of the traditional rice dish we’ll be making. We’ll start with the famous pan tomaquet, cutting all the veggies and preparing the seafood. Then, we’ll move on to the sangria. Once the rice is ready, we’ll enjoy it on our new stunning Secret Garden terrace, And for dessert, we’ll end the experience with an amazing Catalan Cream. Yum!

The Venue, staff and food were amazing! They all were so friendly and helpful and taught us a lot about making crusty bread with tomatoes., garlic and olive oil as well as really good Sangria and seafood Paella. I also had a foot injury and they were so kind and helpful with where to get it looked at after the class. All around great experience!

The experience was wonderful. The class was held at the flat of Alphonso. Very knowledgeable. We chopped up everything that would go into the sangria and paella. He actually cooked it. But it was nice watching him cook it. We also had gaspocco. I would definitely recommend. It was only 6 of us that made the experience very comfortable.

We had a great time making Paella and sangria. Patrick, our chef involved everyone in the process and the result was delicious

This activity was not at all as we expected. The location was moved last minute. The change was billed as an upgrade to a premium experience and location, which it was not. The chef, Martinho, and his helper were engaging and so much fun. All 20+ of us were hanging out and some of us had an opportunity to stir, chop, and mix. The location provided very little protection from the blistering sun. The facilities were inadequate. While I learned a lot about making pallela, not everybody in my party had that opportunity. We were also not provided options for anything other than seafood pallela. As it was, the experience would have been absolutely worth it at 50 to 60% of the price.
