My wife and I took a recommendation from a guide in Manuel Antonio to see if Mauricio was available to take us on a personal guided tour of Carara National Park. Thank you Pablo for the great tip! We met Mauricio at the park entrance. He helped us pay the park entrance fee online - you can’t purchase entrance directly at the park but need to become a (free) SINAC member first then book a visit and pay online (no big deal really). Even before buying our tickets Mauricio had shown us a Nightjar through his scope! Great start. We went on to enjoy 4 hours of viewings along a reasonably easy trek through the “transitional” forest - we are in our 60s, I with a dodgy hip. There are tougher trails through the park for those younger and fitter. Lots of animal spotted. A highlight being the Spider Monkeys. Mauricio is great. He ensures you get to see many interesting sights and learn new facts. He’s clearly very keen about his subject and passes on that knowledge very well. I strongly recommend contacting Mauricio via his JungleXpeditions.com website for a great trek through this lovely park.

Mauricio is a terrific, super-knowledgeable guide and an all-around great person! We saw toucans, macaws and dozens of other birds I’d never seen (or heard of) before. Our Merlin bird app was identifying new birds seemingly every 30 seconds while in the park. 0% chance we would have seen most of them but for Mauricio’s expert eyes and ears. We also saw spider monkeys, capuchin monkeys, howlers, agouti, coatimundi, poison dart frogs, iguanas and a bunch of other animals, again, thanks to Mauricio, who also helped get us some photos of the various birds and animals that we will remember forever. He also, after asking us shortly after pickup, what birds and animals we wanted to see and took us to some locations outside, but on the way, to the park that he knew had great close-up views of toucans and macaws. We had a terrific day on our tour and would recommend the tour of Carara (and p.s. - we saw NO mosquitos, but the lagoon trail was closed for the wet season) and you will not find a cooler, more knowledgeable, better natured guy to lead your tour of the national park than Mauricio. Highest possible recommendation.

Very courteous and knowledgeable guide. Goes out of way to try and find birds in the park and took us to a couple of places on the way to and back from the park to see more. Definitely recommend him and the tour.
