What To Expect

Cochahuasi Animal Sanctuary

In the morning, a car will pass by you from your hostel or airbnb place and if you want also at the meeting point to take you to the sanctuary. We will share an unique and unforgettable time. We will have a beautiful day with native animals of the sierra and jungle area. We will see in their houses: monkeys, macaws, turtles, deer, deer cats, alpacas, bears, wild cats, foxes, condors among others. The purpose is to help and learn about our mission, which is to educate, so we invite schools and the public in general to teach children to respect our nature and animals. Our goal is the free some of them to their natural habitats. The connection with animals is an unforgettable experience. After the tour, the participants will have free time because it is a tour only for the participants and we will take them back to their accommodation or to the main square of Cusco is flexible. At the end of the tour we will have a store of products made of alpaca that the sale 50% goes to the animals and 50% to peasant communities around the sanctuary these sales serve to make the sanctuary sustainable since we do not receive support from the government.

This was an incredible experience from start to finish. The driver picked me up right on time and was very friendly. He even suggested spots to take pictures along the way. The sanctuary tour guide was very informative and it was clear that the animals are loved and well cared for. I loved feeding the birds, alpacas, monkeys, and llamas. My favorite part was petting the toucan! It was shy at first but when I asked to go back at the end of the tour to take a picture with it, the workers were able to bring him out so I could pet my favorite animal for the first time! I highly recommend going here as it is a wonderful sanctuary and a short drive from Cusco.

I visited the animal shelter in December, and the experience was amazing and special. Albert gave us an in depth tour with great patience and care, sharing the story of each animal where they came from, what they had been through, and how they were rescued. The hospitality was wonderful, the atmosphere pleasant, the animals are sweet, and the people there are kind, warm, and driven by a real sense of purpose. At the end of the tour, you get to feed the alpacas a fun and funny experience. This was the most enjoyable experience I had in Cusco and is highly recommended for anyone who loves animals.
