Hwaseong Fortress
Hwaseong Fortress is an impressive structure from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). The fortress was built as a display of King Jeongjo’s filial piety towards his father.
Hwaseong Haenggung Palace
A Hwaseong Haenggung was a temporary palace where the king and royal family retreated to during a war. Hwaseong Haenggung Palace is the largest one of these, use by the Joseon kings since the time of King Jeongjo. This palace is not only being used as a shelter during war but also King Jeongjo stayed here during trips to worship at his father's tomb.

We absolutely loved our tour with Sophie. Her knowledge of the fortress and the palace and of Korean history was detailed, and she provided context that enriched our experience for sure. She was also so kind and considerate and made everyone feel so comfortable. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Sophie.

It was my first time in Suwon and I had a great time. I was able to experience the bow and it was a great memory. I also want to visit. Thank you. 😊

I had you explain it very finely and carefully, and I understood a place that I could not understand if I visited it by an individual well, and it was very enjoyable and it became full sightseeing.

It was a small group making us feel like we were on a private tour. Our guide JL was knowledgeable and very friendly and approachable. He imparted a lot of historical information on us. Everything was on schedule and the duration of half a day is ideal as we had the afternoon to do continue our own shopping and sightseeing.

Nice trip. Rachel was super useful and very helpful. She explained a lot of things in detail and answer all the questions. The ride was smooth and fast as well. I recommend to bring warm clothes in November.

We did the half day Suwon tour with Rachel as our guide. She was great! The day started off rainy but cleared up after we got to the fortress. She had a lot of interesting information to share with me and my two kids (8 and 11). She engaged them in the history and conversation and was so helpful. The van was very nice and comfortable. We ended our half day at a cute coffee shop to warm up Lila’s my kids were cold. We really enjoyed our tour and would recommend it to others who are interested.

This was an excellent morning half day tour just outside of Seoul. Our guide Shin was extremely knowledgeable and shared a lot of the history of the fortress and palace. Highly recommend!

Shin was a fantastic guide! This was a hidden gem, beautiful site and fewer crowds, highly recommend! We learned a lot of history walking the fortress wall and enjoyed the palace, perfect half day tour to see something outside of the Seoul city sites.

What a difference an enthusiastic guide can make. Sophie made my day. I loved the story behind the Suwon Fortress and the martial arts display was an unexpected bonus.
