If I was just reviewing the tour itself I would’ve given 5 stars but unfortunately the communication issues leading up to the tour were pretty bad (e.g. no updates on the itinerary until 6pm the night before, no responses to some of my messages). That being said, Mauro was a phenomenal tour guide and the logistics were otherwise fine. For a last minute booking (I booked 3 weeks in advance), I can’t complain too much. Great job Mauro! Please do better with communication Happy Gringo Tours.

We were short on time and are so glad we did the 1 day Machu Picchu tour. We got picked up in Cusco, traveled to Aquas Calientes and took the 2 hour tour of Machu Picchu. It was incredible! The guides made sure we were in communication with What's App. They helped us find places to eat during lunch. Overall it was an amazing experience. We would recommend Daniel and Happy Gringo Tours.

The local operator is a mess, the day I arrived in Cuzco I was told there were no tickets for Machu Pichu that had another excursion. After arguing for a whole day, I was changed to the excursion, I had to reschedule my entire stay. On the day of the excursion, they spent half an hour later and then had to make up that time on the route, traveling at speed in transit, a deplorable road and with mist. Totally dangerous. Once we arrived at M pichu, the guide was gone, then we met at an hour at a meeting point that arrived later. We mixed in Spanish and English groups so half of the people did not understand the explanations. Bad experience

This was an all day 15-16 hour "tour" for a guided 1 and half hour experience. The rest of the time is spent on your own, traveling by bus or train on your own, and exploring the city before Machu Picchu on your own. You sat quietly unless you made friends with the other people on the tour, and we were all just as confused. I may be jaded from the bar being set so high from other tours and tour guides, but our tour guide with Happy Gringo Tours barely guided. It consisted of following the guide around while they were on their phone, getting in lines, sitting on buses and trains, and our guide being on their phone. Did I mention they were on their phone? They started with a pickup early morning between 5-6:00 am and ended with travel back around 9:00 pm and the only time period that we spoke with and received information from our guide was between 1:00 - 2:30 pm when we were already inside the Machu Picchu city grounds. AND the tour guide didn't even come back with us at the end of the day and left us with instructions on how to get back from 3:00 - 9:00 pm The guide was sitting by themselves during all parts of travel and they were on their phone the rest of the time and even spent the first hour of our tour ALREADY INSIDE of Machu Picchu texting and taking phone calls in the middle of our tour while we were walking, and sometimes they were taking pictures of the site for themselves while we waited. Even during moments where he was speaking, he would receive calls or texts and his phone was not put on vibrate or silent and it would just continue to go off which was extremely distracting. Hardly an hour and a half experience even during the tour. Other tours we went on during our stay in Peru spoke at various points during our travel and talked to us about what we were passing, the towns we were visiting, they had passion and energy for what they were showing us. A 15-16 hour day would be broken up into different moments and hours of care and attention and fascinating facts mixed with humor and energy that was contagious. This was bland, distracting, hardly a guided tour, and mainly a long day of traveling with strangers who you need to make friends with otherwise you will be sitting around staring out a window for most of the time. The only reason I am not giving this 1 star is because at the end of the day, it could be the single tour guide that was the issue, we did get some sort of a tour while we were there, and I could have done more research into the itinerary or asked more questions which could be my fault. I never write reviews but I felt this was so below average, and compared to other tours we received, this was not a good experience and others should know. I would not use Happy Gringo Tours again.
