Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in Fairbanks. He was a full time wedding photographer for 10 years before becoming an aurora portrait photographer, which he's done for over 7 years. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan provides. He uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness, using techniques he developed over 7 years of practicing aurora portraiture. We also provide complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: hand/toe warmers, headlamps, water bottles etc. What everything boils down to is great photos and a personal experience. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your own. Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska artic wilderness survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

What To Expect

We’ll trek out on an adventure like no other, staying toasty warm as we enter a winter wonderland under the northern lights. The tour is a magical journey through the sparkling frozen tundra, chasing the colorful swirls of aurora borealis overhead. Learn the science behind the phenomenon and how to photograph it using your own camera. You also get free professional portraits and landscapes. We drive 15-40 miles north of Fairbanks to one of many excellent viewing locations. We set up a cozy heated warming shelter and offer complimentary gourmet pizzas, hot out of our 930 degree stone fired pizza oven. Also, hot cocoa, coffee, Chai Tea, apple cider and black tea. This adventure always delivers a memorable experience with lots of fun extras to do while we wait for the aurora to appear. 5.00I highly recommend this experience. Nathan is super professional and went above and beyond to make our adventure special. It was -40 degrees outside and we still felt comfortable the whole time. The pizza is excellent and a nice touch. But most of all we got an amazing Northern Lights viewing and photos of a lifetime!

5.00I planned a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska for a bucket-list experience seeing the Aurora Borealis. Luckily, I found Electric Moose Studios through Viator. Nathan, the owner, immediately texted us to prepare us for our experience. He even referred us to a guide to show us around Fairbanks. Nathan picked us up at our hotel and took us out into the country away from the city lights. The aurora‘s were not as good as he had hoped, but he entertained us in his warm-up tent with warm drinks and pizzas fresh from his pizza oven. He also taught us about the origins and forecasting of the aurora’s. While we waited, he took us outside for fun pictures with sparklers and lighted lanterns. Because the lights were not as good as he’d hoped, he invited us to join him again when he had room for us. We ended up spending two more nights with him, each as wonderful as the first. We have never in all our travels encountered a guide who cared so much about making sure we saw what we had come to see. You will not regret hiring Nathan for your bucket list trip to the Aurora Borealis. In all of our travels we have never had a guide like Nathan. He really cares for his travelers and wants them to see what they came for. Plus you get the pictures he takes for free on the link he sends you. What’s not to like?

5.00It was a wonderful experience. Nathan is very friendly and patient. He took spectacular pictures of us with the Auroras. At first it is delicious to relax and warm up in the tent with pizza and chocolate and then be able to see the show. Do not hesitate to answer this tour, it is really worth having photos taken by a professional

He’s knowledge and deeply passionate about the land and the northern lights—he shared insights, stories, and tips that you would never get on a larger commercial tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a truly unique experience. It’s the kind of adventure you’ll think about long after it’s over. Lastly, with his photography background, Nathan was able to take some breathtaking photos!

5.00Absolutely amazing!!! Nathan was such a great guide, his passion and excitement made the tour unforgettable. His excitement every time the northern lights flared was contagious and made the experience all the better. He for sure knows his stuff. His many years of experience in professional photography shows. Our photos were everything I could have hoped for. The warming shelter was cozy and allowed those of us on the tour to have great conversations and enjoy each others company. Nathan is a perfect blend of personable, professional, and an all around genuine guy. Even if there are no lights the evening you book he has so many creative surprises to bring joy to your night. He will also try to reschedule you to a better night to hopefully ensure your chances of seeing the northern lights. The couple with us had gone out the previous night but there was too much could cover so he had them come out the next night with us. Ultimately he just wants you to have a great time and share his zeal and excitement for the northern lights.

5.00Literally the best way to go and experience the lights. Our time started in Fairbanks with icy roads, so as Floridians it was not easy to travel any distances. This tour was the perfect selection, as he was so careful and skilled with our care. A nice warm drive with all information: he answered every question we had and narrated anything interesting as we went. Being picked up at our door was fabulous and it was a beautiful ride. When we arrived he parked and left us to stay warm as he put up a warming tent. We took photos as the stars were ALL out; just gorgeous! when we were officially chilled he had the tent ready with information about the Aurora as we had pizza to snack on while we listened, ate and drank warm beverages; totally felt as though we were being spoiled the entire time. We took several pics as the Aurora gave us a peek:) he said it was truly not the best night for the viewing, but for us it was a truly perfect night. My plan is to bring my husband back to see the lights again and use this business to do it. Wow, what a truly pleasant experience!
