Nathan is a professional portrait photographer by trade, which is something you’d be hard pressed to find on any other Aurora tour in Fairbanks. He was a full time wedding photographer for 10 years before becoming an aurora portrait photographer, which he's done for over 7 years. Other tours offer “free portraits” but not to the level of expertise that Nathan provides. He uses controlled supplemental studio lighting to achieve unmatched quality and sharpness, using techniques he developed over 7 years of practicing aurora portraiture. We also provide complementary gear to help keep you warm and safe: hand/toe warmers, headlamps, water bottles etc. What everything boils down to is great photos and a personal experience. The photos speak for themselves and we want to get you some of your own. Not only will you have a top tier photographer as a guide but Nathan also has more than 20 years of Alaska artic wilderness survival skills and offers expertise in all things Alaska adventure.

I highly recommend the Electric Moose Studios to assist you in your quest of the Aurora Borealis! Nathan is a friendly, fun, knowledgeable tour guide, passionate about both the lights and ensuring his guests have an unforgettable experience! He brought us to a viewing destination where we were the only people on site. Nathan keeps his word as advertised! The other couple with us that evening were on a complementary trip as they didn't see the lights the night before. (Too cloudy.) The aurora was beyond spectacular!! Nathan ensured our warmth and safety by providing a cozy, warm shelter we could duck into anytime we needed to use it in addition to group breaks. He served us pizza and offered a variety of hot beverages which were thoughtful touches. Nathan shared photography tips when asked as he has a degree and many years of professional experience in the field. He took several shots of each couple with the Northern Lights to capture our bucket list experience of a lifetime! Within hours, we received a link to the pictures and video of the night. I honestly cannot say enough about Nathan and all the attention to detail he puts into making your viewing experience remarkable!

STOP READING ALL THE REVIEWS. I already did all the work for you ;) Based on all the reviews I've read throughout multiple platforms, here are the reasons why Nathan's tour is superior to all other tours & why I chose his tour... [GUARANTEED AURORA VIEWING!] On our first night, we only saw it faintly for the last 15 mins, but Nathan still offered us another free night. This guy really loves aurora and wants people to enjoy aurora just as much as he does! Other tours do not have a guarantee program or provide refunds if you don't see them. [HIGHER CHANCES OF AURORA VIEWING] Nathan has all the proper tools & knows where to go to find clear skies. Once an optimal viewing point is found (that's also private & safe for the best experience), he sets up a large warming tent right there in about 10 mins or less! So you have much higher chances of seeing the aurora vs other tours that just take you to a cabin and hope that the sky around the cabin is clear that night. (those also don't have refunds either) [PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS FROM A REAL PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER!] This was a major factor for me. Nathan was a full time wedding photographer for 10 years before becoming an aurora portrait photographer, which he's done for over 7 years. So not only does he know how to manipulate the necessary & detailed settings of complicated cameras in a complicated dark setting, he also knows how to direct people to pose for photos for the perfect shot! He was also happy to teach those who wanted to learn how to use their own fancy cameras. I've done side-by-side photo comparisons of all the tours out there, and Nathan's photos were by far the best quality resolution and much more artistic. If you know anything about art and quality images, you'll also be able to see his talent right away. I'm beyond happy with all of my pictures! [STAY WARM & COZY IN THE WARMING TENT UNTIL THE LIGHT SHOW!] I was actually able to strip down some layers inside the tent and get comfortable because he was able to keep it warm enough during subzero weather. (when we went it was negative 14 degrees). He also has a real-time image of the aurora on his phone, so we can stay warm and cozy until the lights are dancing in the sky! [PRIVATE LOCATIONS] vs overpopulated spots that many amateurs or tours go to. Nathan is an experienced local that knows all the private spots that aren't crazy far away. (most tours drive 1-3 hours one way) So both nights it was just us (4 tourists + him) and about 30 min drive one way. Because of this, we also didn't have to deal with large groups of obnoxiously loud or rude tourists that other reviews had mentioned. Ours felt intimate and special, which was important to me. [INTIMATE & SPECIAL EXPERIENCE] Nathan doesn't book more than 10 ppl at a time, so you won't have to worry about large uncomfortable crowds that take away from the rare feeling of the magical dancing lights! [SERVES PIZZAS & WARM DRINKS!] Yes he cooks them while we warm up in the tent, so they are fresh-from-the-oven pizzas and your choice of warm drinks (hot cocoa, coffee, tea, etc) vs other tours where they serve small airplane snacks & cold bottled water. [NO BORING WAIT TIME!] Nathan kept us entertained the whole night via lessons on the science of aurora and many other intriguing conversations, so much so that it didn't even feel like a long wait at all (for both nights!). [NO DRIVING IN SCARY WEATHER] We're from Hawaii so we don't know anything about driving in icy cold weather, let alone pitch dark streets that might have random animals that pop out. So it was nice to be picked up & dropped off at our stay and not have to worry about driving in sketchy weather. [ACCOMMODATING] (1) I am claustrophobic & I cannot sit in the back seat of large vans. I need to sit by the door. I communicated this with Nathan prior to booking and he had the passenger seat saved for me for both nights - mahalo! (2) His page clearly states pick ups & drop offs are in the Fairbanks area only. On the 1st tour we were staying in Fairbanks, but unfortunately, for the 2nd tour, we were staying in North Pole. Coincidentally, North Pole had better viewing conditions on the night of the 2nd tour. So Nathan offered to pick us up & drop us off at our airbnb in North Pole anyway. What a great guy! Whereas with large tour companies (which I have called and asked about these accommodations before) they were rigid with their policies and were not accommodating. [CREATIVE INNOVATOR = HIGHER CHANCES OF GREATER EXPERIENCES] (1) On the night that we didn't get to see much aurora, he had a smart contingency plan where he spun around sparklers behind us for a wonderful light show/backdrop for our portraits. (2) He's the first to use supplemental lighting in aurora shots (some tours still didn't use them), so his photos have much clearer images. (3) He's the first tour that chases clear skies and sets up a warming tent there - I believe there might be another one out there now, but imitation can only go so far. A naturally creative & innovative thinker can always problem solve and make the best out of any situation for a higher likelihood for a greater experience! [IMMEDIATE & EASY-TO-DOWNLOAD PHOTOS] He sends you the link to his photo gallery the next day at the latest. I can tell he was a wedding photographer - his set up is so professional and user friendly, just like how my wedding photographer was. I have multiple options on resolution size & where I want to download it to (google photos, on this device, etc). I can favorite my photos so I don't have to download all of it. I love efficiency! I will 100% return to his tours again. In fact, after hearing other tourist's experiences on other tours, I don't want it any other way. I highly highly highly recommend his tours over others. Nathan, I hope you never change your intention & integrity of your tour company because you've built such a great base of trust within your consumers. Mahalo for an unforgettable and magical experience for my husband and I to share together and to remember forever - THIS is one of our core memories now :) Ahui hou!!

Once in a lifetime experience! - Nathan was my tour guide and was an absolute legend. He set up a thermal tent which was so warm and made us delicious pizzas and hot drinks. He knew everything about the Aurora and Alaska. We Laughed the whole night and very much enjoyed searching for the northern lights. 10/10 experience and highly recommend to anyone coming to Fairbanks Alaska.

Highly recommend. This is a true small group outing, unlike most other aurora tours. There were only 4 of us in a spot all to ourselves. Nathan runs the company and will be your guide. He is very personable and really committed to everyone having a great experience. He build a heated yurt for us, which was very warm and comfortable. He made us pizza and hot beverages, which was really nice. Nathan also was very helpful with camera settings and took some cute photos of us, as well as of the aurora. Nathan is also a great photographer. We also went on a tour with another company and their photos were bad to mediocre. Nathan took beautiful photos of us as well as the aurora and sent us links the next day! Also very importantly, our first night had barely any aurora (not Nathan's fault - sometimes nature does not co-operate), so he invited us to go out the next night at no cost and we had amazing views.

If you're looking for a top-tier Aurora experience, this northern lights photography tour is a must. Nathan is a truly skilled photographer who takes stunning shots; you can immediately tell he knows exactly what he’s doing with his equipment and the conditions. While many people don't realize that the lights can never be guaranteed, this tour handles that reality perfectly with a generous policy that lets you go again at no cost if the aurora doesn't show up the first night. Despite having a poor forecast for our outing, the lights finally made an appearance, making for an unforgettable night.

Nathan was amazing!!! This guy takes you to his special viewing location and sets up a tent for you, gives toe warmers, and warms up the oven. You get into this tent that has snow on ground but feel so warm and cozy. Also educated on what the northern lights are and what we are looking to see. has a 360 camera set up so you can see at all times what is happening in the sky. pizza was good and hot drinks were fabulous. this is a guy that you can tell loves or at least is passionate about what he does. he is not an employee in some company that is draining his life force. he is doing this and LOVES it. Was very patient (i am very very annoying) with all my questions and many requests for pictures and he helped with my posing and position. it was truly an amazing experience and if any of my family goes to fairbanks (i am heavily recommending it) i will definitely recommend this gentleman. other places you can get in a cabin and such but something about this was just a personal and very very special time.

Nathan is awesome! He is very passionate about his business and has definitely done the research to make seeing the Northern Lights enjoyable for his guests. My son and I had a great time. We were fortunate to have been able to see the lights pretty much right away. Nathan took some fantastic photos. We actually got a preview of them which was nice. Nathan’s warming tent was amazing and kept us warm during our trip. He made us pizza and hot drinks. We talked about the Northern Lights and what to look for. I would highly recommend this trip.

I highly recommend this experience. Nathan is super professional and went above and beyond to make our adventure special. It was -40 degrees outside and we still felt comfortable the whole time. The pizza is excellent and a nice touch. But most of all we got an amazing Northern Lights viewing and photos of a lifetime!
