Trigonion Tower
The Trigonion Tower is also known as Thessaloniki's balcony. It provides an excellent view of the city's acropolis. Vlatadon Monastery
During a full-day tour of Thessaloniki, a stop at Moni Vlatadon (Vlatadon Monastery) is one of the most memorable moments. Tucked into the quiet Upper Town, the 14th-century Byzantine monastery sits on a hillside just inside the old city walls and is believed to mark the exact spot where Saint Paul preached to the Thessalonians in 51 AD. A simple stone inside the small church is traditionally said to be where the apostle stood. You arrive after a short drive from the city centre, and the reward is immediate: sweeping panoramic views over the rooftops, the Thermaic Gulf, and – on clear days – all the way to Mount Olympus. The main church, dedicated to the Transfiguration, is beautifully decorated with well-preserved frescoes, and the whole place feels calm and lived-in because it is still an active monastery belonging to the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Modest dress is required (shoulders and knees covered).

Perfect Day in Thessaloniki!

5.00Our driver and tour guide, Yannis, picked us up right on time from our hotel, the Electra Palace, in downtown Thessaloniki. Yannis is a life long resident of the city and he speaks perfect English. His enthusiasm for the city’s history was clear throughout the tour. His new Citroen van was cool and comfortable as we ventured from one amazing site to another. With a friendly and engaging personality, Yannis made it easy and fun for us to learn so much as we visited each of the main historical sites covering thousands of years of history. We finished the day with a very special treat. Yannis knows where to find the best bougatsa in the city. It was an incredible treat warm from the oven. Thank you Yannis for an amazing and fun tour of your city!

5.00Yannis was wonderful! I really can't say enough. He adjusted the tour to be at our pace as my husband was struggling with a bad leg. He worked to get us close to things and make it easier for him. He gave us so much information and history without overwhelming us and making it interesting and fun. He told us about greek life, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. He even went out of us way and after I had expressed in an interest, got me a Bougatsa to try! I would highly recommend Yannis. He is easy to understand, his driving is wonderful, the car is comfortable and he will make your time in Thessaloniki unforgettable!

5.00Being a local I had never been on a guided tour before. However, I knew that I hadn't visited some important sites of my city and as for the ones that I had, I just had a rather vague idea of their history as I had visited them when I was a schoolchild. This was the reason why I decided to look for a guided tour and I have to say that the whole experience exceeded my expectations! Giannis made sure that by the end of the tour I had formed a thorough understanding of the history of the city and instead of just providing me with information about each sight he actually helped me realize how some sights are even interrelated and interconnected in the continuum of the history of Thessaloniki. I absolutely loved the tour. Giannis is really good at capturing your attention and keeping it throughout the tour and, being a teacher, I have to say that this is a really difficult thing! I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour both to locals who want to become more familiar with their city's history and of course to tourists and travelers who want to go off the beaten track and seek for meaningful experiences.
