Traveling to the site is over difficult roads, bad traffic, and requires a bit of patience. However, the reward was seeing a temple complex that is at least 4 to 5 thousand years old; and potentially much older. It is off tbe beaten tourist path, but seeing the temple on top of the mountain you have to wonder about the engineering, management and work it took to move the heavy basalt stones and the organization of the society to do it. As a history affectionado, it is worth the 12 hour round trip.

Getting to sites in West Java is an ordeal, however, this tour made it super smooth to explore this unique site. The drive was very interesting and gives you a unique experience of the smaller cities outside of Jakarta. The guide and driver were great, very friendly and attentive. The guide's English was great and provided tons of insights on the drive and at the site. Definitely get these guys if you want to explore this megalithic site.

The road trip to Gunung Padang was a beautiful experience. The route was scenic with lavish tropical vegetation (once we crossed the city limits), lush green mountains and tea plantations. The site of the ruins was filled with a profound energy and they have cordoned off some spots where we can meditate. Intense energy was palpable in those spots. The climb to the top of the hill must be around 350 steps - manageable. The tour organizers surely contributed to the ease and comfort of this experience. To start with, the car was clean and neat and equipped with tissue boxes, water bottles and toffees. The Guide Joe Harman was friendly, kind, courteous and well informed. Thank you, Joe😊 Driver Ali was exceptionally skilled at maneuvering through winding and occasional stretches of unpaved roads up in the mountains. It is 4+ hours each way because of the heavy traffic in some of the villages and close to the city. Anyways, we were in capable hands. Good job, Ali😊 Both Joe and Ali were also experts in taking photographs. I would be happy to recommend this tour organizer. Thank you.
