Enjoy a private and authentic market tour and cooking class in a local home with host BA, a public health professional. BA is a passionate home cook and baker, who loves trying new and healthy recipes. She is well travelled and has lived in a few cities, so she loves mixing international flavors with local, seasonal produce. Also, accommodating dietary needs is her specialty! As she is lactose-free, her son is vegetarian, and many of her friends are gluten free.
Buy fresh, seasonal produce at the market and then join BA in her home kitchen for a 2 hour hands-on cooking class. After you cook, join BA and her sons (if they are home) at the dining table to relish the meal you helped prepare.

This is a unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Visit a local farmers market to buy fresh produce, cook a 3 course meal in a local's home, and after your hands-on cooking class share a meal you helped prepare. Either walk or take a bike ride to the local Farmer’s Market in Long Beach with BA. This is a great place to browse, sample and buy fresh produce. You will then cook a meal using the ingredients you bought at the Farmer's Market. BA's cooking is inspired by local ingredients – which are plentiful in Southern California and international flavors from the many places she has lived in and travelled to. She tries to use fresh and local food – often from her own yard – as much as possible. Your menu will depend on the produce that you pick up at the Farmers Market. A seasonal, fresh, healthy and delicious meal. There will be dips, salads, a main course and dessert.

I loved meeting BA and hearing about her experiences in other countries and seeing spices from other countries and just learning how to cook some things I had never made before

Interaction with BA and her family was fun. We felt like we were at a friends house for lunch. We grilled everything we ate so it was nice to be outside on a beautiful day.
