Enjoyed a very interesting and informative tour of Roman Chester this afternoon with Optio Marcus. He was engaging, funny, and full of enthusiasm, guiding the group around the extant remains of the ancient fortress. It was a real treat to see the Principia columns under the cafe! Marcus also told us about his custom-made legionary kit, and we were able to handle reproduction and real artefacts. A great tour, well worth your time - I have a PhD in ancient history and was thoroughly entertained - and even learned something new!

Our guide Marcus (real name Kieran) gave us a superb insight into the 400yrs occupation of Chester by the Romans. His enthusiasm, insight and knowledge combined with his open and friendly approach enabled us to learn so much about the history of Chester. Being dressed in a replica Roman outfit surprisingly helped us all imagine the Roman occupation. Highly recommended - we learned so much from our tour guide, despite having previously visited Chester numerous times before.

My partner book this for me as I am a huge lover of the Romans. Marcus was absolutely fantastic! He gave us so much information and his passion and love of the Romans was clear. We learnt so much and can't believe how much we had simply walked past in our previous trips and just didn't take the time to acknowledge and appreciate. He had told us about the museum that we could visit for free and when the tour ended said he would walk us to the museum on his way back. Nothing was too big an ask people stopping him for photos and each time he checked it was okay with my partner and I as obviously it was our tour to which we didn't have an issue. We both really enjoyed the tour and would highly recomend!

My husband's birthday present and it put a massive smile on his face, and mine seeing him so happy. He loves history. We always do a walking tour when possible wherever we go. A great way of finding out about the area from local experts. Been to Chester lots of times and for some reason haven't done one to date... until now. This one was a very special as we had our very own Roman soldier guiding us. He definitely draws the attention of the crowds. Markus (aka Kieran). He was awesome, he knows his stuff and shares it in a wonderful way. 2 hours went very quickly. We learned so much and got a real good feel as to how the Romans lived. Thank God we no longer live in those times is all I will add. Highly recommended.
