Ashvin was very knowledgeable and engaging. We learnt a lot about the mix of cultures on Mauritius and their impact on food and life in general. A short visit to the Tamil temple just outside the town - then an interesting visit to a cooperative gardens followed with tastings of chutneys/jams. Great dhall puri in Flacq and a tasty light curry at another venue. Ended with a short visit to the market. Overall a good experience if slightly expensive for the food alone - but Ashvins humour and bonne homie made up for it.

This was our first ever food tour and I can safely say we are now hooked. What a wonderful way to gain an insight into not just the food but the history and culture of Mauritius. We were staying on the east of the island so did the Flacq tour. It began with a trip to a Tamil temple, where we were lucky enough to receive a blessing, before heading over the road to a co-operative garden where villagers grew fruit and veg, including the vanilla Mauritius is famous for. Then we returned to Flacq where our guide, Ashvin, took us to some out-of-the-way gems where we could taste some amazing street food, then on to a restaurant for yet another delicious meal to taste. We ended the tour at the local market, which was an assault on the senses and well worth a visit. Ashvin was a brilliant guide, not just knowledgeable but great company. We learnt so much about this lovely island. Thank you, Ashvin. It’s a day we’ll always remember! I can 100% recommend a food tour with Taste Buddies. My only word of advice is to give breakfast a miss the day you go, so you have plenty of room for all the fab food Mauritius has to offer!

Taste Buddies give a truly authentic experience of life in Mauritius and the tour with Ashvin was excellent. We started the day with a short drive to a local Tamil temple which was beautiful. The next stop was a vanilla farm where fruits and vegetables were grown. We tasted some home grown snacks and their exceptional jam. The tour guide there was informative and lovely and was really passionate about her job. We then travelled back to Flacq for the walking tour which included a dholl puri, chicken and then an excellent shared curry meal. The amount of food was perfect and a visit to Flacq market finished off a brilliant day. We were so impressed that we booked another tour in Port Louis for later in the holiday.

An excellent half day adventure into Mauritian food, history and culture. The meeting place was easy to find and our guides were friendly and engaging. We made five food stops in total each one different and delicious. I would absolutely recommend this tour - we had a great time despite the wet weather!
