Saltos del Petrohue
After your ship docks in Puerto Montt, you will ride onboard your air-conditioned private vehicle and begin your journey to Petrohue Waterfalls located in Vicente Perez Rosales National park. Once we get to the national park where the Petrohue River Waterfalls are, you'll then embark on an easy walk with your guide to a pathway that leads to the falls. You will see waterfalls tumbling over a lip of volcanic rock, with waters turning beautiful shades of blue and green. Surrounded by a thick forest, the falls stand against the gorgeous backdrop of Osorno Volcano, making for amazing photo opportunities.
You will head back south to the town of Puerto Varas. Puerto Varas was colonized by German settlers and is known for its German traditions, beer seafood, natural scenery and luxurious hotels. This town is located on the shores of Llanquihue Lake and the perfect cone of Osorno Volcano and the snow-capped peaks of Mt. Calbuco and Mt Tronador are visible from the lakefront. You can enjoy having a German beer (madein Chile) or walking around town filled with fragrant roses and historical statues that represent the history and founding of the town. If you enjoy shopping for souvenirs to take back home or simply enjoy looking at the local crafts this is a great place to do it.

Thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Ignacio. Beautiful scenery and a wonderful roadside snack with wine. Just enough time in Puerto Varas and Fruitillar where we enjoyed delicious cake from the German bakery overlooking the lake.

The highlight of the trip was going to the waterfalls and seeing the volcanoes up close. I could easily have skipped Frutillar. Would have liked more time in Puerto Varas for shopping. Found an artisan chocolate shop that we purchased from four folks back home. We really enjoyed Ignacio’s commentary, gave good information about the sites as well as about the local people and local culture. His English was very good and he was attentive and attuned to the interest of the passengers. The tour covered much of the same ground as the cruise ship tour at half the price.

Bathroom break was at a very small restaurant with just one toilette that wasted most of the break of half hour due to waiting.

Unfortunately the cruise ship water tender was delayed which made the guide, Maria’s harder to fit in the full schedule. She and her driver did an excellent job. The visit to the waterfalls was a disaster as it coincided with most of the other tour groups being there at the same time, hence overcrowding. Enjoyed the rest of the trip around the large lake and visits to the picturesque towns. Found the bus to be too small a distance between the seats for anyone of average height. Great region to visit but reverse the schedule and invest in a larger bus!

The tour was well organised and efficient. The guide was very knowledgable, informative and obviously proud of Chile, his enthusiasm for his job was obvious. We returned to the port well in time for the last scheduled Tender departure.

Booked our tour as a cruise excursion and unfortunately our ship was late in arriving affecting the length of the tour. The visit to Petrohue Waterfalls was excellent. During the bus transport Emily kept us well informed on the various locations of interest. She was personable and it was lovely to share the day with her.
