A really good pre Xmas day out for my son and I from Hue. Khe Sahn and the DMZ was one of the main things we were looking forward to as part of our trip and we weren't disappointed. Hoa was our guide and she was great. The in depth insights she gave to the group about the war from a Vietnamese perspective were eye opening... I knew much of it already from a western viewpoint but hearing it from Hoa provided a very different nuance. She also gave such a deep level of information about the culture, history and politics of the country it has put all of our other experiences here in a different context and would be of interest to anyone, even those uninterested in the military aspects. Hoa filled the journey time well, even though there is a lot of travel time on the itinerary the views mean it's not a dull drive at all, (even though we did get caught in a traffic jam which delayed us more than 90 mins and with Vietnam's roads this can happen so be aware and don't make firm dinner plans for early evening!) Highlight was probably the tunnels, we got there late and so our group had the place to ourselves. So extensive and deep... We were underground for 25 minutes or more at depths of up to 25m... Cu chi doesn't really bear any comparison. Vin Mok were civilian tunnels and something I had not been aware of before the trip. Long, but very enjoyable day, which we will remember for a long long time.
