Amazing way to spend a day! We were picked up on time by the friendly driver and the van was in good condition with working seatbelts. We stopped at a nice gas station about an hour in where you can use the restroom, buy coffee, breakfast and snacks. You pick what you want for lunch and there is a decent amount of options, including two vegetarian. Lunch is at a restaurant within the park with a nice view and there is a gift shop there as well as well as a place you can buy snacks, etc. if needed. Our guide, Martin, was super friendly, funny and nice. He was also great at pointing out wildlife. The next day, someone from the company sent me a message asking how the tour was, which was a nice touch. Would highly recommend.

Just amazing experience thanks to Shumba. He was absolutely brilliant. Informative, friendly, funny and topped off an amazing day at Pilansberg. Special mention to Sunny who drove us from Jo’burg and back. He was great.

Make sure to bring a telephoto camera lens, get plenty of rest the night before, and use the bathroom at rest stops, as there will be no stops once the trip begins. Lastly, be sure to listen to the instructions; it's not a place where you can exit the car.

Let me start by saying the people at the tour company couldn’t have been nicer. My review is more about the actual experience and not about the drivers or tour guides. If you’re looking for an actual Safari feel, I’m afraid this just isn’t it. Understanding it’s only a day trip, it is billed, I’m afraid, as much more than what it is. It’s a drive through the closest “park” to Joburg/Pretoria, a crowded and incredibly loud experience. Drivers shout to be heard, constantly stop to talk to other drivers (and not to discuss where the animals are, the blaring radio does that.) Perhaps ans importantly, this is not a 10 hour experience as listed on Viator! As I would suspect many people are, based on the amount of luggage I saw in the bus that collected us, guests are trying to squeeze in a Safari like experience on the day of their evening flight. I wouldn’t recommend this in the least bit as everything takes longer than expected on a journey like this. Traffic, road works, guests overstaying the brief stops for bathroom etc. Plan the entire day. I was collected at my hotel near Johannesburg Airport at 05:30 and wasn’t returned until nearly 19:00. Fortunately, I wasn’t flying out until the morning, but I spoke to other travelers throughout the day. We were very nervous about getting back in time. Note, if you are being picked up in Johannesburg for this, you’re facing close to three hours on a crowded and uncomfortable shuttle bus until you reach the park. We took nearly an hour just to collect the other passengers, which I understand is necessary to fill the bus and to keep the price low, but nearly 6 hours of the day spent getting people and getting to the park and back really blew the whole experience for me. On a positive note, we did see elephants, giraffes, hippos, rhinos, and a number of other animals. No cats that day but that’s ok, that’s just how spotting goes. But this environment frankly felt forced, a large lake which was intentionally filled throughout the year and a visitor center where all park guests come for lunch just felt too architected. Individual cars are allowed, and the park was rammed with families, unaware of how to behave around other guests who are trying to see the same thing as they are. So, if you only have a day and you absolutely need that picture of an elephant to pretend that you were on a real Safari, then go ahead and spend the money. Otherwise, take some real time and go into one of the larger parks where they will talk about conservation measures, and the environment, and not just drive you around so you can snap a photo.
