What To Expect

Begin at Heidelberg Castle, strategically perched upon a hilltop overlooking the city , where you'll have time to tour the building's impressive ruins. Explore the site's diverse buildings and spaces, and check out centuries-old artifacts such as the Great Barrel that was build in 1591 and once stored up to 130,000 liters (about 34,342 gallons) of wine! Another attraction is the German Pharmacy Museum at Heidelberg Castle which shows pharmacies from the 17th till 19th century and stores about 1,000 pharmaceuticals and finally from the huge terrace at Heidelberg Castle you have a wonderful view over Heidelberg city.

2.00I must say that our day trip was totally spoilt by the tour guide we got. He was very grumpy, opinionated, prejudiced against everyone except their own Germans. Kept judging us for choosing such a wrong time to visit Germany! Gave information about German brands from cars to pharmaceuticals. Basically condemning all european truckers using Germany highways as a drive through. We had to endure unwanted information throughout our 1hr 10min drive from Frankfurt to Heidelberg Castle. Went through the castle which was honestly not fantastic. Did take some nice aerial photos of the town below. Then spent an unnecessary amount of time having coffee at the cafeteria. By the time we got down to the Old Town, we were told we had 40mins to walk around. This was a surprise as the itinerary stated 90mins. We asked the tour guide about this and he says that in his 35years of experience, he has never followed that itinerary! He says the tour is about getting information and seeing the sights. He became defensive and argued with us. Finally he agreed to extend another hour for us to actually visit the Christmas market and walk over the old bridge. On the journey back he showed impatience towards other drivers, which was jeopardizing our safely. It wasn't worth it. Wasted our time and money. He should retire.

5.00Wonderful experience all around. Willy was a fantastic tour guide, full of lots of information historically on Heidelberg , Altstadt and even the highways and roads in Germany. Throughout he was sharing tidbits along the way to the castle and was a great driver , humorous and very helpful with suggestions. I would highly recommend doing a tour with him again in the future.
