Discover Cambodian’s traditional life on TonLe Sap lake by visiting the Kompong Phluk floating village. Kompong Phluk is a permanent community that has based its economy on fishing and is surrounded by flooded forest. During the dry season, you will be able to sight stilt houses rising up to 8 meters in the air while in the wet season; the water rises to within one meter of the edifices.
This half-day tour will allow you to discover one of the most interesting floating villages that lie on the TonLe Sap lake. Have a high regard for people’s living while you will end your tour admiring the view over this gigantic lake.

What To Expect
Kompong Phluk
Go aboard our minivan to the great TonLe Sap lake (the biggest fresh water lake in South-east Asia) which will give you a fascinating insight of the true Cambodian life. Pick-up you from your hotel by our local guide (please make sure you provide your hotel information at time of booking). Drive may take around 40 minute from Siem Reap to the boat’s pier. You will be invited to ride on a private boat leading to floating village of Kompong Phluk (traditional Khmer floating Village located 30km from Siem Reap). Discover the tall stilted houses, floating hospital, fishery, old lifestyle of the country and the natural landscape of the flooded Mangroves forest. Boat ride lasts around 1h30 – 2 hours and may vary depending on the season.

5.00This was a definite five out of five experience led by experienced and enthusiastic guide Jack and Driver Mr. Nal. The boat tour was fascinating, educational, and interesting, including the stroll through the floating village to see how the people there live. A highlight was an optional canoe ride through the mangroves, which was relaxing and beautiful. Jack was superb in his responsibilities as trip leader. He is knowledgeable, college educated and smart, but most importantly passionate about his country of Cambodia and its people. This excursion exceeded our expectations and is something we would do again on a return trip with family!

5.00This was one of the best things that we did throughout our trip. The whole experience was fascinating and our guide, Chong, did all that he could to ensure that we had a great time. In fact we would give this 6 stars! We did, however, make sure that we visited when the water is high ( from about October to January I believe, but worth checking).

5.00Misunderstanding meant tour didn't arrive at selected time - my mistake! Mr Ya and Paul were amazing at coming to get us and ensuring we still had full experience. Refreshing cold towels and insight into the local life of the villagers was fab. Highly recommend if coming to Siem Reap. Loved going amongst the Mangroves in canoe with a lovely local.

5.00Jack, our English speaking tour guide, was amazing, as well as the driver. They showed up slightly earlier than scheduled. When found out that we were in the lobby waiting, they immediately picked us up and started the excursion. Though I didn’t realize when booking that this would be a private tour. They communicated about the $22/pp boat ride beforehand so there was no surprises. Jack also suggested us to take the canal ride which was $11/boat and fit up to 2 ppl. The entire experience was magical and you really got to get a glimpse of how people live. Jack was also helpful in answering all kinds of questions. Would definitely use him again for tours!

5.00Our guide Captain Jack was awesome! He was super knowledgeable, funny and entertaining for the whole 6 hour tour. Bus was comfy and we were supplied with endless amounts of cold drinking water. Our driver, Mr James Bond was very good also. Would highly recommend

5.00We booked an afternoon trip to a floating village about 40 minutes from central Seim Reap. Our guide Praim arrived on time, introduced himself and personally drove us to the village -Kompong Phluk. During the ride Praim candidly answered our questions about recent changes in Seim Reap and how recently the community at Kompong Phluk opened itself to the public. He was knowledgeable, professional, thoughtful in his responses and willing to accommodate several of our requests. We felt prepared for what we encountered at the floating village because of our conversation with Praim. Our car was only allowed so far, at which point we boarded a small motorized boat that took us to the center of Kompong Phluk some 20 minutes away. The stilted homes flanked the boats path and the entire community was on display. At the center of town we walked around because the road had not yet been submerged by the 7 feet of water brought by the rains. We then boarded a smaller boat and were paddled throughout a lagoon before viewing a pen where crocodiles were bread and raised. Our original boat took us out toward the open waters, but it began to rain and the water got very choppy; we leisurely returned to our car. Regardless of the water level throughout Kompong Phluk, visiting is a once in a lifetime experience. This small village will not remain as it is forever. Take advantage of the opportunity to see it as it is, while you can. Thank you Priam for an excellent tour!
