The shimmering blue waters of Lake Titicaca are home to the famous, man-made Floating Islands of Uros. These islands and their dwellings, which date back to a pre-Incan time, are made completely out of totora reeds, a native bulrush plant that grows in the lake. With a guided tour, get to know the inhabitants that have formed a small community and learn how these islands stay afloat. During the afternoon, visit the island of Amantani and experience the unique culture of the locals.

Uros Floating Islands
We will be picking you up from your hotel within the historic centre of Puno between 0645 and 0700 in the morning. Before boarding the motor boat to Uros Island we will have a brief stop at the boat pier where you can buy some snacks and bottled water. Once you would settle in the boat, a local musician would welcome you with an Andean Folkloric music. Our guide would then introduce himself and the captain of the boat before giving you a brief about the day’s itinerary on the World’s highest navigable lake, Lake Titicaca. Our first stop will be at the iconic floating islands of Uros. During the journey from the mainland to one of the Uros Islands, you can see totora plants that grow on Lake Titicaca. These constitute the basic source of food and, at the same time, they serve as a maintenance system that the Uros have to perpetuate the existence of the islands As the boat would dock in, local women dressed in the local attire would extend a warm welcome to the place they call home. The head of the island would then demonstrate how they build these islands using totora plants and would share a few words in their native language (Aymara). Natives here are known for their handicrafts, so you may buy some if you would wish to. You will then have an option of sailing on the traditional totora reed boat (10 Soles) to the main island of Uros. If desired, you can get your passport stamped here as a souvenir. From here, we will start our boat ride to Taquile islands. You may walk up to the open deck on the upper level of the boat and get some photos of the floating islands that you would be passing through.
Taquile Island
Breaching the green waters of Peru’s Lake Titicaca is the little mound island of Taquile where the local villagers have created a steady industry of knit handicrafts, which are knit by the men of the community. Taquile is home to a Quechua population of 2,000 people who are mainly farmers, fishermen and above all renowned weavers. However, unlike the often tragically traditional view of knitting and textile work as the demesne of women, it is the men of Taquile Island who do much of the delicate thread work. The craftwork is divided between weaving and knitting; women do the weaving, while the knitting is the man’s work. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch at around 02:30 PM, you will be boarding the boat back to Puno. At approximately 04:30 in the evening, the boat will dock in Puno’s boat pier. We will meet you upon your arrival and will drive you back to your hotel within the historic center of the city.

We did the full day Lake Titicaca tour with Planet Odysseys nd it was esily one of the most memorable days of our trip. From the very begining, everything felt well orgnized and smooth, cleat communication, punctual pickup and a friendly team that made us feel comfortable right away. A big reason this day stood out ws our guide, Abel. He was professional, warm and genuinely engaging. Throughout the tour he explained the history of the Lake Titicaca and the local traditions in a way that felt ntural and interesting. He also made sure everyone in the group was doing well, kept the timing on track without rushing us, and was always happy to nswer questions. The visit to Uros floating islands was fascinating. Seeing how the islands are built from totora reeds and learning how life works on the lke gave us a whole new appreciation for the culture and resilience of the people there. Abel helped us understand the story behind what we were seeing, which made the experience feel more meaningful then just tking photos and moving on. After tht we continued to Tquile Island, and the scenary was bsolutely stunning, wide lake views, fresh air and peaceful atmosphere that feels far from busy touris routes. The walk is very doable at a comfortable pce, nd Abel managed the group really well, giving us time to enjoy the views while lso shring cultural insights about Taquile´s textile traditions nd dily life. It felt authentic and respectful, and the community was welcoming. Lunch was another highlight. The meal was tsty nd satisfying, and the setting made it even better, simple, locl and exactly the kind of experience you want when visiting a plce like this. The whole day had a great balance: cultural learning, beautiful landscapes, and enough time at ech stop to truly enjoy it. Overll, Planet Odysseys delivered an excellent Lake Titicca day tour. Well timed, well guided, and genuinely worth it. If you are deciding which company to go with, I would absolutely recommend them, and if you can, sk for Abel. He made the experience feel personal, informative, nd unforgettable.

I came here simply because it’s the largest lake in South America, located in the Peruvian Andes along the Peru Bolivia border, but it turned out to be one of the best places I’ve ever visited. Every sunrise and sunset transforms the landscape into a painting of vibrant colors reflecting off the lake's surface. The surrounding area offers incredible hiking opportunities with panoramic vistas at every turn. I can highly recommend Planet Odysseys and especially its wonderful guide Ricardo for everybody who want to do the Titicaca Lake tour.

Lake Titicaca is a truly magical place. Its vast size, high altitude, and deep blue waters are breathtaking. What makes it even more special is the unique culture and way of life that thrives around the lake. It is one of the most mesmerising experiences in life. If you have not, visited, it is a must-visit place. Titicaca people are very kind and they like to tell story about their place. My advice is to visit also the islands and to sleep there for at least one night. A fascinating mix of old and modern culture. Well worth the visit.

I enjoyed every moment of my tour to the islands of Lake Titicaca. Abel was the guide and he was very nice in explaining things and was very calm and patient. Uros floating island was truly a different place on earth, just few miles away from Puno, the culture changed dramatically. The hike up the hill in Taquile was somewhat difficult but do-able. The lunch was little but delicious. We also saw a folkloric dance performance by locals here.
