I was told I didn't need a tour to navigate and tour Lantau Island. But, I am so glad we did sign up for this tour. Michael was insightful and it was so wonderful to learn from someone local who knows the area well. He provided background and history which gave the sights we were visiting have depth and perspective. It was also wonderful not having to navigate transportation and buying tickets on our own and just spending the time there to enjoy the sights. There was also no pushing to buy anything from any vendors or places we visited. Just a good tour to visit the area and understand the people who live there.

Great tour with Michael. Good insight on the history of the Tian Tan Big Buddha and the nearby temple. Plenty of time to wander around the area and climb to the top (a strenuous but do-able climb if you take it slow). Simple but delicious vegetarian lunch (tofu, vegetables, and rice). Really cool visit to a gorgeous remote temple on the side of a mountain. Michael explained how Buddhists pray and gave us time to meditate at the top of the pagoda (up about four flights of narrow stairs). Visit to the fishing village and a stilt house was a highlight. Taxi ride to the temple and bus ride back to the MRT can be a bit harrowing on the narrow winding roads. Bring cash ($45 HKD when we ride) for the express bus to save some time. Highly recommended and will book again when I bring visitors to HK.

Having read a few reviews of this short day tour before booking, I had toyed with the idea of doing it alone. However, while that might have been possible I am so pleased I joined this tour. Our very charming young guide Wind was well organised and provided a valuable insight into the stops along the way, capitalising on her deep understanding and knowledge of Buddhism, local history and culture. I have visited many different Buddhist temples and statues over the years but Wind explained a lot of the key symbolism associated with Buddhism that I had never previously understood. I enjoyed the vegetarian lunch at the monastery and our time in Tai O fishing village, learning about the locals’ way of life. While we didn’t see any pink dolphins, I had not really expected to, so that was not particularly disappointing. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. It was lovely getting to know a local a little bit (our guide, Wind) and meeting other interesting members in the group. Although reasonably fast-paced, the tour did not feel rushed and Wind looked after everyone well, providing clear, helpful advice and instructions at all times.

During my recent solo trip to Hong Kong, I had registered for the 2 hour version of the Lantau Island trip which covered the cable car ride, the Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. The guide Alice was very friendly, knowledgeable & engaging and provided great information on the history and significance of the places starting from the cable car ride to the Po Lin Monastery. She also provided clear instructions and made sure that everyone was accounted for. The group was quite small and included 2 families who were quite friendly and warm as well. Overall, it was a great experience! Thank you Alice and Hong Kong Free Tours!

Stephen was knowledgeable and entertaining. Sandra said it best when she said "we learned a lot today!" He even carried my bags when I was struggling with the 268 steps to the Big Buddah. Stephen was great!

This was a wonderful experience that encompassed so much of Hong Kong in one tour. Our guide Simeone was so wonderful and passing out Hong Kong history, she really loves what she does and it made our experience even more special. You must do this tour if you are visiting Hong Kong, it will not disappoint. The food for lunch was great and you need to be prepared for the stairs to Buddha and also the monastery because there are a lot but very do able.

Plan to be patient because it gets crowded. Allow time and be prepared for the steps. Go early and have fun

The title of this trip is misleading. I thought that I booked a visit of the Big Buddha and Tai O but upon arrival I was told that Tai O was not included although it was confirmed on the Viator email and via WhatsApp from Hong Kong Free Tours. The Buddha visit and Po Lin monastery tour were nice as our guide, Isaac, but we had to arrange a Tai O visit ourselves the next day. Frustrating and unnecessary loss of time!
