The caves where Hermit monks use to live an extraordinary life back in 14th century are situated between Kalbaka town and Kastraki Village. Our guide Riki was wonderful. Her explanation of thr geology, mthyology, and current state of the meteora monasteries was superb. Mr achilles at the dias taverna had graciously arrnaged the vegetarian Greek lunch for us as we had requested ans that too was superlative

The guide (Elina) & the driver (Leonidas) were very nice and did a great job. I would highly recommend you take their tour. I wish we had more time at the second monastery, Varlaam, but I guess that's the nature of fitting everything in on a day trip from Athens. Pro tip: if you plan on buying something from a monastery gift shop, St. Nicholas was cheaper for the same items, although it had a smaller selection.

The area is beautiful, very crowded this time of year. Bus ride was well managed but a very long 14 hour day.
